I got The Selection by Kiera Cass on a whim to read during my study break. Quite frankly I started with trepidation because of the all the mixed reviews and it's a Dystopia. Dystopia has never been my friend. I surmise I should change my thoughts towards Dystopian Genre after reading The selection. In my opinion, it's an amalgamation of The Hunger Games and The Bachelor (Tv series). Although i had certain issues with the story, I was completely swept by the plot line. I liked the world Kiera Cas ...more

I never expected to like it, but I did. I actually enjoyed it until about 80% mark, when our main character turned into a total ... well, I don't even have a word for it. I know she was only sixteen and had some tough decisions to make, but this was just ridiculous. What was she? A human weathervane? ...more

I loved this book. I was hesitant to start this series because I thought it was a ridiculous concept, but I enjoyed it and can't wait to see where the next book goes with the story. ...more

This is yet another dystopian world risen up from the ashes of the United States with a love triangle. I still gave it 4-stars thought because I actually stayed interested throughout the story and look forward to the next in the series. I like how the author gives you just enough information to understand what is going on in America Singer's story and the surrounding backstory. I am sure that this is so things can be revealed in the next couple of books. ...more

I rolled my eyes quite a few times, but I actually enjoyed this book.

A few things that irked me:
- America's refusal to accept the fact that she is beautiful
- the names (so painful)
- the unabashed obviousness of the plot
- the wooden characters

Given these factors, which were persistent throughout the book, I can only explain my enjoyment by my very low expectations when starting this book and by my love for The Bachelor.

I really liked this book. This was The Bachelorette and The Hunger Games rolled into one with the writing of Pierce Brown. Yes, there were a few tedious moments and a bit of unnecessary drama, but it was fun!

I love Post-Apocalyptic novels, so I believe I give them an unfair rating when compared to other novels. However, I definitely recommend this if you want a quick enjoyable read.
