What Members Thought

I didn't want to like this book. And there were some things that made me go "SAY WHAT?!" But I did enjoy it. It was a fun read marred by some bad ideas. And so I'll explain my feels as Good Ideas and Bad Ideas.

GOOD IDEA
Despite her stupid name, I liked America. She was an individual and she wasn't going to let anyone change that. Well, except perhaps Aspen, but we'll get to that in a minute. Not afraid to yell at a prince and stand up to a rival. I appreciate that.

4.5 stars. I thought it was a very interesting story. So excited to see how it all plays out in the next one!

Listened to this for the Popsugar 2015 reading challenge as the first book in a trilogy. If you like The Bachelor reality show, you may like this--though reality is lacking in this one. It does have plenty of jealous women and artificial drama and attacks upon the castle, if you enjoy those elements of a story. Glad to have this category checked off though. And also, as my daughter has read this, glad to have completed this to keep up with her and have a dialog about it.

The main character was very likable. But I did NOT like that the book just abruptly ended and I now HAVE to read the next one to find out what happens!

This book was much more than I expected. After reading the summary I thought it would be a silly book to read, but it was not. The main character, American Singer, is so much more than just a girl that is part of the Selection (that helps the prince decide who he will marry). She is strong willed, opinionated, thoughtful and smart. She never wanted to put her name into the Selection but her betrothed convinced her it would be a good idea. Now as a Selected girl she has to face what she wants fro
