Updated review: I've been trying to read this book for the past two years. Initially, it was rough. The first part (half?) of the book dances around a LOT, from character to character and situation to situation, apparently ignoring things like chronology and plot. I had taken the book in small doses to about 33% completion - I read before I go to bed, and what usually ended up happening is that the book put me to sleep before I could make any reasonable dent in progress.

The challenge was to read a book that I had started but never finished. I started reading this masterpiece first when I was in my 20’s and frankly, I didn't get it. I was certainly not as literary then as now, but I don’t think that was really the problem. It may have been part of the problem, but I think the real problem was that I didn't think the book made sense. Rather, it was written about a world that doesn't make sense.
