Well. That was. Something. I can't say I hated it. There were parts that I found interesting, but on the whole I find myself wondering what so many people love about this book. Maybe they don't actually love it...

I found it to be depressing, often distressing and hard to follow (which I blame on the structure of the story). I guess it's just another "classic" checked off my list.

I wasn't expecting to like this novel as much as I did. I tried to read it in high school, but couldn't get very far. I'd seen the movie with Laurence Olivier and thought the characters were insipid. A friend of mine and I were talking one day in April about classics and she wanted to read this, so I agreed to try it again. Boy, was I surprised. The only part I actually liked was the end. And I was still even kinda mad about that because it was really stupid how the people were even put in those positions. It's crazy how the way you treat someone leads to events years and years down the road. Still didn't really get it I guess. ...more
