An amazing way to round out this series (but also not round it out obviously because there is more). What a whole amazing wild ride this was. Top series for the year for sure.

I cried (and when I say cried, I mean sobbed) with relief, joy, anger, and pure happiness, I laughed, I yelled in anger and frustration, I got so angry at times that I'd yell or so upset that I had to put the book down for a few minutes. There are not very many books that I have read that have been able to bring out so many emotions in me. This series has easily become one of my all time favorites. I cried (and when I say cried, I mean sobbed) with relief, joy, anger, and pure happiness, I laughed, I yelled in anger and frustration, I got so angry at times that I'd yell or so upset that I had to put the book down for a few minutes. There are not very many books that I have read that have been able to bring out so many emotions in me. This series has easily become one of my all time favorites. I loved Thrones and Roses, and didn't think it would get better, I was delightfully surprised when Mist and Fury swept me off my feet and I honestly thought that after such an amazing second book that the third wouldn't be as good, again I was swept away with surprise when it completely took over, when I could barley pull my nose out of it. This book completely broke me and molded me back together, in the best way possible, because while doesn't like sobbing for two or three hours after you finish the book. The first part of the book was slow, but important, later on we find that we did, in fact, need all those little details. The characters were so complex, so strong. So many different heart breaking stories, and the best part is they keep fighting, they keep moving, they don't let those pasts break them. They fight for one another because they love each other, they are family. And Feyre, oh Feyre.... she has grown so much, and it's so awing, and when we learn that she learned to love herself, the good and "especially the bad", that she learned to forgive herself after she looked in to the mirror, that was completely incredible. We can see the growth, it doesn't ever stop. She makes so many iffy decisions, so many times I yelled at her (literally) for the bad calls she made, BUT... she learned from them, she grew from them. She continues to heal from the things that have happened to her, they don't just disappear one day, no, she's still haunted by them, but she is working to overcome them. And really, you could say that about every one of them... they are all haunted by horrible things that have happened and they are working to heal, to overcome it, and I freaking LOVE that, and they still take care of one another no matter what even through their healing, it's just so amazing. We get to look into other characters, see what's going on with them (finally), and I was ecstatic about that. I loved spending time with Cassian, Az, Elain, Mor, Nesta... all of them. I adored seeing the complicated relationship of Nesta and Cassian, I loved feeling that spark between Az and Elain, but still knowing (at least at the end) there might be something between her and Lucien.
I loved how we see war, not as something to be exited about, but as horrible, tiring and emotionally draining (because, let's face it, there are a lot of books that glorify it when they shouldn't.)
And let's talk about Rhys. Omfg , I adore that man. He is funny, the smart-ass mouth is hilarious, and... Behind that humor... he's so caring, so loving, so... giving. He'd give everything to protect the ones he loves, and I do mean EVERYTHING. And the love he has for Feyre... this book was just completely emotional.
Cassian, dear gods. His entrance was squeal worthy (and I did, literally, squeal). The way he charged that commander, and the way he commanded his army, it was amazing to see.
We got to see more of the other Courts, which had me sooooooo happy! And the Winter Court! They had freaking armored polar bears and little white messenger foxes! Who wouldn't love that??!! Aside from the Night Court, I think Winter was my favorite. The Autumn Court can kiss my butt....
I loved the fact that characters overcame their mistakes but didn't excuse their actions, I think that makes it more realistic, and doesn't enable others to excuse bad actions they make (just wanna point out that my phone autocorrects to "Rhys" when I try to type "they" lol). I love how Maas put so many types of mythology in this book, I LOVE the variety! (I'm a history and mythology buff). Lucien’s story was heartbreaking, and awe-inspiring. And the fact that the High Lord of Autumn may not be his father.... I was honestly shocked.. but in such a good way! Because I loved the one who is his father. There was sooooooo much banter and sooooooo much sass, omg it was great. All of the sarcasm, and smart-ass comments. I was rolling.
I want to now comment on the library. That library, what it stood for, what it was for... that had me sobbing. I had to put the book down because I couldn't see through the tears. I think that was one if the most incredible things I've ever seen in a book. The fact that Rhys made that sanctuary for abused women, and the fact that he, himself, seek sanctuary there as well. The fact that he really, really cares for mental health and well being of these women so much that he makes a place just for them, where they can feel safe and secure.
The Bone Carver and the Suriel (even though we didn't see her more than once in this book), became two of my favorites. And I got so, so very emotional over those two AND, surprisingly, the Weaver. (Never thought I'd say I was emotional over a murderous death god...)
Rhys, since the beginning, has treated Feyre as an equal, has always given her a choice, has never MADE her do anything, because she has the RIGHT to make her own decisions, her own choices and she has the right to say no or yes. I love that type of healthy relationship. And since we are on that topic, (because we all know her relationship with Tamlin was NOT healthy). I went from hating him, to loving him, to hating him and back to loving him, all in a matter of three books. He is really a complicated character and I really don't know how to feel towards him.
Maas added so many different races of people, and that was incredible to me. We need more books that have that much variety. And she added gay couples! That amazed me, I was SO happy. Even one of our main charecters, we find out, is gay. I was thrilled to find our Mor was gay, and heartbroken by her story.
I want to go on to talk about some serious things though. This book had such a positive rep for trauma, abuse, PTSD, and learning to heal, learning to try and move past the horrible things and rebuild yourself. This series... this series has helped me in so so many ways. It has shown me ways to heal, it has shown me that I am stronger than the things that have happened to me and this book in particular has shown me that only I can determine what breaks me.
And last but, ooh, not least. That battle! Omg that battle! I was so on edge from the beginning. I was squealing and screaming and crying and gasping and laughing and soooo many other things. It was heartbreaking and laugh worthy and just plain EPIC! I finished this book last night and I still feel empty and I'm NOT okay.
Really, the only thing that bothered me a great deal, was the amount of sex, I mean, not that I'm angry about it, I just think so much of it was pointless. I understood the first scene, since they had been apart for a while. But it was a bit much honestly, imo. ...more
