So.....I finally read The Road. Three stars technically means 'I liked it,' but, I didn't like it!
It's possible that it's more moving in print. The repetitiveness, stark dialogue, and lack of plot just didn't work for me in audio.
Of course, I was aching for the backstory throughout the entire book. What exactly was it that caused the apocalypse?

How did I get so lucky to read two 5 star books back to back? Unknown to me at the time, I chose to read two Pulitzer's back to back.
I do not normally read dystopian fiction but wanted to listen to a short book before I started Justin Go's The Steady Running of the Hour which was not published until Tuesday. The shortest book in my Audible library was Cormac McCarthy's The Road which won the Pulitzer in 2005.

I'm not sure I really understood the premise of this book. I didn't feel attached to the characters, or even the storyline, but I did like the theme of loyalty and love conquering all.

The atmosphere in this book is haunting and bleak. The story is just so depressing. McCarthy’s writing is really straight forward yet I was captivated and could not stop reading. I am left with So many questions that will go unanswered but sometimes that is ok.

Pulitzer winners are hit and miss for me but this one was good for me. I have put off reading for years in spite of my husband urging me to read. I should not have waited so long.
