I wish everyone can learn and face their problems with as much heart as this munchkin does. I may need to keep a copy of this book available at all times. Really.

Much like this book’s protagonist, I had no idea what to expect when I started this story. I picked up the book because of a passing familiarity (maybe I’ve heard of Emily the Strange before?) but really just expected a fun little ride. The mystery w ...more

This book is totally adorable. It’s a superhero story without the depressing baggage, and its upbeat protagonist is a joy to follow.

I listened to this as an audiobook. I didn’t pay anything for it because it was part of Kindle Unlimited, and I still feel like I invested too much. The narration is stilted and the story is not any better.

Man, oh man - this series has some ups and downs for sure! I liked the book, but the plot felt a bit forced and wrapped up too neatly for the situation. It seemed quite unrealistic that thing X would happen at just the perfect time over and over agai ...more

Tragedy and nearly soap opera-esque plot turns force our heroine Trynne into ever more bleak situations. This is a passable mid-trilogy book and captures the rising tension in Ceredigion as we head to a sure-to-be epic climax in the conclusion of thi ...more

William H. Gass
“Then let us have a language worthy of our world, a democratic style where rich and well-born nouns can roister with some sluttish verb yet find themselves content and uncomplained of. We want a diction which contains the quaint, the rare, the technical, the obsolete, the old, the lent, the nonce, the local slang and argot of the street, in neighborly confinement. Our tone should suit our time: uncommon quiet dashed with common thunder. It should be young and quick and sweet and dangerous as we are.”
William H. Gass, Willie Masters' Lonesome Wife

Chuck Palahniuk
“The French philosopher Jacques Derrida likens writing fiction to a software code that operates in the hardware of your mind. Stringing together separate macros that, combined, will create a reaction.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Stranger than Fiction

E.L. Konigsburg
“I'm not sure that love and like aren't like cats and dogs: One can't grow up to be the other, but they can be taught to live under the same roof.”
E.L. Konigsburg, Silent to the Bone

Susan Cain
“There's zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas.”
Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

Coleen Murtagh Paratore
“If you don't like a book, you can close it. But you have no right to say I can't open it.”
Coleen Murtagh Paratore, The Cupid Chronicles
