Redshirts wasn't in stock Tuesday, and Kobo's DRM shenanigans made me loath to purchase the ebook despite my shiny new tablet. Fortunately, I had already borrowed The Android's Dream from the library. I try to pace myself between books by the same author, but in this case I suppose I'm making an exception. I really enjoyed Scalzi's "The Android's Dream." It's witty and filled with action. It has some of the strangest plot twists I've ever seen in any kind of novel, but Scalzi makes them oddly plausible, in a warped way. In Old Man's War, Scalzi deftly injected the military SF genre with an incredible dose of humor. The humor worked in large part because the characters themselves used it as a defense mechanism against an entire Universe out to kill them. It made the humor a bit desperate, bittersweet and absolutely hilarious.

The Android's Dream, contrary to Old Man's
