What Members Thought

First, I love Oscar Wilde’s writing style. It’s surprising I made through so many years without reading this classic. I found ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’ to be very thought provoking. Here are some of the questions that the storyline challenged the reader with:
-If the question of good and evil become irrelevant in one’s life, how does that alter one’s actions?
-Do people treat individuals differently who they view ‘beautiful’, ‘powerful’ and/or ‘wealthy’?

This is a hard book to review.
It is brilliant in its observations on vanity, shallow natures, Victorian society, morality, sin and how others can negatively influence you. There is so much discussed in this book and I cannot deny that it is intelligently, eloquently and beautifully done.
Wilde holds nothing back as he explores these topics as well as his own psyche through Lord Henry (and maybe even Dorian). His characters are phenomenal. Twisted and flawed but fascinating to read (even when yo ...more

My first time reading this book and I enjoyed it a lot. I found some parts really funny especially some of the conversations between the three main characters. Absolutely loved the description of Basil's studio on the first page of the book. And Basil is my favorite character, I can't stand the other two especially Lord Henry.
