It's 'Alice in Wonderland' like you've never ~~seen~~ read it before!
I don't understand how Marissa Meyer is able to incorporate every little detail of our favorite childhood fairy tales into an entirely original universe of her own. If her Lunar Chronicles series is anything to go by, she's now officially included in my favorite YA authors.

Despite a couple editing errors in the book and the fact Meyer used wayyyyyy too many references to things being "peeled back" (I'm still not sure how you 'peel back' your shoulders), "Heartless" is a very well-written and fascinating re-imagining of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland.

I seriously hated this book as much as I loved it. Since the story is about the Queen of Hearts I knew from the beginning it would have a tragic ending, so I could have chosen not to read. But reading about an imagined background Meyer created for the Queen was so magical and enchanting. But I totally ugly cried at the end. Because my heart was broken. So good! Yet so dang frustrating!
