I cant describe this book with big words and praises because I have none that can do this book justice. Instead I will write using simple words to express what I felt about this book that, it was innocent and honest as a child. Its awe inspiring how some one as old as Harper Lee can retain their child like thinking and write in such a carefree manner ungoverned by adult complexities and irrationality.

Harper Lee has taken a significant amount of her life and put it into this book. Instead I will write using simple words to express what I felt about this book that, it was innocent and honest as a child. Its awe inspiring how some one as old as Harper Lee can retain their child like thinking and write in such a carefree manner ungoverned by adult complexities and irrationality.

Harper Lee has taken a significant amount of her life and put it into this book. You could assume that the little girl Scout is actually Harper herself. The book is narrated through the eyes of a child named Jean Finch(Scout), who has a brother namely Jeremy Finch (Jem). They life in the fictional town of Maycomb in south Alabama during the time of the Great Depression. They live with their father the town lawyer, Atticus Finch. And a house maid, Calpurnia an African american. And an Aunt Alexandria who come's to live with them latter on.

The protagonist Jean(Scout) starts the narration of the story by describing what she remembers her town looked like, so clearly this is a flashback of her childhood memories in Maycomb. She say's that Maycomb was a "sad, slow, and tired sleepy Southern town." This refer's to the poverty of the town during that time. She describes all the events while growing up, big or small. But the life of Scout and Jem is not a sad. On the contrary life is peaceful, happy, care free, and fearless for the two. She talks about childish squabbles with her brother. Her colourful and imaginative friend Dil who came to play with them every summer. Boo Radley a strange and mysterious man who never leaves his house and secretly leaves gifts for the two kids in a tree. Her school teacher that is determined to educate kids in the new Dewy decimal system to Scout infatuation/confusion. Their maid Calpurnia's judicious disciplining of the children. Her old, wise and caring father who always told her : "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it". Through out the book Scout struggles to understand the contrasts in the society she lives in. She also has an aunt name Alexandria, Atticus's sister who is insistent on raising Scout to be a "decent young lady" contrary to her father's way of raising them.

The story is meant for children and adults as well. It discusses crucial issues which are still a problem today and the various flaws of society. Such a segregation, discrimination, rape, and stereotyping. The main story revolves around a black man named Tom who is falsely accused of rapping a white women. This theme deals with two issues one the matter of discrimination and secondly rape. Tom an innocent hard working family man who is also handicapped on one arm is on trial for his life. Atticus Finch is the man who is to defend Tom in his trial, and it is up to him to save Toms life and honour against the weight of centuries of injustices done against Tom's race of people.

I don't want to give way the ending of the book because it is so marvellous. This book had me remembering my childhood and brought me so much joy. Hope you enjoy reading it!
