Finally, I'm done with this book. Whoever said that the PJ books have a lot in common with the HP series was very wrong. The idea overall was nice but the way the story is told is not so great. The pacing was too fast for my taste, and the narrative voice was too childish. I get it, this is meant to be digested by a younger audience, but for crying out loud, this is no longer literature to me. I can't say I liked the characters either. For anyone who has read the book and seen the movie, you will realize that there are many, many differences between the two. Let's start with the most glaring. In the movie, Percy is a teenager, high school age-ish. In the book, he is 12. Now, for some, this difference would be disturbing. For me, I don't know, the way some of the events play out seems to work better with him being younger. This is my first time reading this series. I didn’t plan on it. I kind of bought this first book on a whim one day. But I started reading it and was hooked very quickly. This is nothing like the movie.
The world feels rich, well thought out with an undertone of darkness and danger.
