FAIL! One of my favorite King books is The Shining and now it's close to ruined with this unnecessary sequel. Really, why? The only reason I don't give it one star is because I finished if. I had given up on King quite awhile ago, it wasn't until I read full dark and 11/22/63 that I became interested again in his books. However after Under the Dome and this mess, I think I'm pretty done.

3.5 stars rounded up.
I don’t really know what I think of this book. I didn’t hate it, but nothing really happened? I dunno.
I loved Abra, she was a great character and I’m a big fan of hers. It was interesting to see what happened to Danny after the Shining, but I just didn’t see the point. It was also way too long.
Honestly, I think if I’d read this with my eyes I’d have DNFed it. But I listened to it on audio and I think that helped. Also, the authors note at the end read by King himself help ...more

I waited a long time for this book to arrive, and it didn't disappoint! King writes such believable characters in such frightening and unreal situations! Even burned to the ground, the Overbrook still calls out to the evil, and the True Knot are indeed evil.
To me, the most frightening thing in The Shining was the topiary animals that silently moved. I still think of them when I see them in people's yards. Thank you Mr King for including them in your story. ...more

I'm actually not 100% sure if I ever actually READ The Shining, but one of these days I will because the sequel was good, so the first one is probably great.
Follows the little boy, Danny, as an adult, shockingly enough, more bad, scary things happen to him, haha. It's a little longer than it needs to be, but it's forgivable because it was an enjoyable read. ...more

Dear Stephen King,
Thank you for writing this well deserved sequel to your masterpiece that is The Shining. I loved it. I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars simply for being too long, as if you wrote it for the screen. I still love you, but please, spare your readers that extra 100 unnecessary pages. Thanks. Love, Jana

It's not The Shining. It is a good, solid "horror" tale that will keep you turning pages to see what's next. It answers the "What ever happened to the kid from The Shining" question very nicely.

Took me a long time to read this book, as I kept putting it down. The 'evil' people in it seemed like the Wurzels, rather dim and with red necks.
