I think this was the first family saga I have ever read, and I do not quite know if I like it. In “100 years of solitude” we follow the Buendia clan for 7 generations and about 100 years. It starts when the fictional village Macondo (in Latin America) was founded by the first Buendia. We watch the village develop, flourish, see the war come and go until the very end. There are real events, like the Banana Massacre from 1928 and there are fantastical elements with the use of light Magic Realism. ...more
