I just found a new favorite series I think! I really enjoyed this. It is rich, with layers of depth in story, characters and world building! I loved the integration of known lore into this faerie world. While still original. A type of retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but darker.
I really liked the characters. Lucien being a fast favorite. Rhys has me the least certain of what to think of him. The romance is a more realistic pace and fit nicely. Having previously read the first 3 books at this ...more

I thought this was a really good fantasy book. I'm always so intrigued by the politics and backstabbing in the fae courts. I know I would not be able to stomach living like that.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the way the relationship developed between Tamlin and Feyre. The story was an interesting take on "Beauty and the Beast". I was a little suspect at first because the story seemed like The Hunger Games when we first met Feyre. But, it quickly moved into something else.

Have I been so tainted and traumatized that I expected Ghost Peppers and you gave me Jalapeños and I just didn't notice? I do not think so! This is what I get for trusting strangers. May the spice flow in future books.

Back to this book... It follows Feyre (think Belle if Belle was illertate so she decided art was her thing instead of reading) trying to help her family survive. Back to this book... It follows Feyre (think Belle if Belle was illertate so she decided art was her thing instead of reading) trying to help her family survive. She goes wandering the woods, kills a deer minding her own buisness and a wolf that wasn't a wolf. Then the consequences of her actions shows up, takes her to his mansion, tells her she can go wherever but it may not be safe, and takes care of her family which so far my romance fantasy brain is hopeful even though I’m not really bonding with the FMC. Mr. Dreamboat-Werewolf-Wannabe falls in love with her and sends her away for her own safety and thus endures some trauma that we get glimpses of but NO ONE talks about like its name is Bruno. I understand the bat obsession on TikTok now.However, I'd like to point out his bouquet of red flags that may or may no be trauma related but are there and I hope at some point get addressed. I think all fae are just emotionally damaged at this point and that's why fae wine is so strong. The ending made me ask what in the Edward Cullen ___ dream was happening.

Points for:
Definitely keeping the first person personality consistent, even when she's annoying
Bat boy cause I love the red flags even though I shouldn't
Legolas Lupin the Fae Version having way more patience with Feyre then I had
Smexy Mad Eye Moody Fae. If I have to have that mental image, so do you. ALSO he deserves the world, I'm calling it now.
Creating a vibrant world and a fandom that kind of scares me.

Points off for:
Feyre not asking the questions I wanna know or explain certain parts of the world. I am letting this slide a little because of the gag order part but still I had questions and I want answers and this girl is WAY too trusting.
Nesta and Elaine are just foils who sometimes serve the plot but if they disappeared I feel like their dad would have filled the role fine. May pay off in later books though.
Feyre took the news of who that wolf really was WAY better than I would have
Look you get the points back for how it played out but I initially took points off for it not being Alice and her nephews when Amarantha went all Astrid from Skyrim.
Making me feel like I am worse than Amarantha (see above).

On a way more serious note without me numbing potential spoilers with random references, I am going to be continuing the series. I have hope that the series overall will live up to the hype and this was just the start. I'd still recommend it BUT I would add a potential trigger warning for borderline SA due to what happens between Feyre and Rhysand under the mountain. While people seem to ship those two a lot, the situation here is inappropriate and could potentially trigger someone. It makes me nervous how it will be handled in the future if at all.

3.5/5 stars but rounding up because I wanna see the Fae version of vampires vs werewolves play out. ...more

Fantasy fans hang on tight because this is the next best thing! I absolutely loved this book. I am a fan of books about the Fey anyway but this one was a great new spin. It is loaded with conniving fairies who are out for themselves yet ones who can't help but love the human in their mist. There are riddles to solve to save lives and challenges of the flesh as well. There is romance and a great feminine lead!

although this has been on my tbr since 2016 i have always steered very clear of this book because there is so much hype around, and i didn't want to be disappointed, also the fact that i haven't had many great experiences reading fantasy in the past made me give this a miss so may times. going into this i had no idea what it was about and the start was very slow paced and as a reader, i actually liked how it took the author so long to actually reveal what the main plot of this book is. not gonna ...more

Beauty and the Beast with fairy elves. A little annoying for the first half of the book as the main character is just pissed off at everyone and everything. Second half picks up and actually starts explaining the Big Bad and the court intrigue.
