'The Sixth Extinction' by Elizabeth Kolbert is written in the tone of an engaging magazine article for the general reader. It tells the stories about several geological locations that are important to the history of evolution and extinction.

This one should be required reading in highschool. It will teach one more about the world and humanity than The Scarlet Letter or its ilk ever could. It's a book about wonder at the natural world and evolution, and a walk through of why most humans suck at sharing the globe.

This book was very interesting and well explained to non-professionals like me, but unfortunately I also found it very boring. I don't know if it's the topic itself (extinction) that maybe wasn't suitable for reading during the pandemic, or maybe I just preferred not to know some things, but finishing it was a relief.

This was a very interesting, very readable, and very eye-opening look into the mass extinction that is happening right now (aka the sixth extinction). This book looks at some specific organisms that are near extinction, while also making note of the numerous organisms that have already gone extinct due to human activity.
