This was a lot of fun! 00's nostalgia, aliens, first contact, alternate history... I don't want to give anything away. I'm interested to see where this series/trilogy/duology(?) goes.

Sexual violence? No. Other triggers? Dysfunctional family, violence, genocide, torture (this makes it sound like a horrible, violent story. It really isn't. The tone is fairly light, even heartwarming while also discussing some philosophical questions.)

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this, but I love Lindsay’s YouTube content so had quietly high hopes. These were definitely fulfilled! I’ve not been this gripped by a book for a while - if I hadn’t started reading quite late on a Sunday I probably would have gobbled it up in one sitting. I’m very excited to read more of the series (and am also now keen to read some more first contact SF, recs welcomed!)

I could not put this down, it was a really entertaining contemporary sci-fi. I will be continuing this series.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was an interesting take on first contact. I found the focus on language, communication, and understanding between humans and alien life to be a different perspective than I have read before. It had a similar feel to old X Files episodes. Overall, a really interesting take on sci fi that felt fresh and different.

I just read the equivalent of a middle school creative writing assignment turned into a made for TV sci-fi movie so you don’t have to. If this wasn’t for a book club it would have been an easy DNF.
