926 Ambitious perhaps, but I'll also be looking forward to hearing what you think of the different books. Nobody says you have to read them in order, if you'd prefer to tackle another one first ;)

926 "The Blind Assassin" is on my to-read list too. It seems to be the kind of book that people either love or hate.

Sorry to hear that "Rebel Angels" didn't grab you.

926 Welcome! I'm glad you think so :)

I've read a book by Feist called simply "Magician" - I wonder if that's one of the two you mentioned, or perhaps both in one volume? In any case it's great :)

926 Well done! :)

926 It does have a lot of tragedy. It was also SO much sadder than I'd expected when I read it the first time. After all it's a children/YA book!

926 I finished "Mary Reilly" yesterday. Wasn't too impressed. Not that I disliked it. Honestly I didn't care enough about it to either like it OR dislike it. It was another book to cross off my list and nothing else. I've added it too bookmooch now. I own too many books to have shelf space for books I don't want to reread.

926 Good luck! I've read "Winter Solstice" and loved it.

926 Lacey, of the Anne books, the first 5 are mostly about Anne ("Anne of Green Gables", "Anne of Avonlea", "Anne of the Island", "Anne of Windy Willows/Poplars", "Anne's House Of Dreams"). It's only the last three ones that aren't ("Anne of Ingleside", "Rainbow Valley", "Rilla of Ingleside").

While "Rilla of Ingleside" isn't all that much about Anne at all, it's still VERY worth reading if you're interested in the life in Canada during WWI. AoI and RV are somewhat dull.

926 I totally understand that, and trust me, if I had the money for it I would NOT be waiting for Christmas or my birthday either. Unfortunately books in DK are really expensive (so much so that it's cheaper to buy a book off Amazon *including* postage), so I have to limit myself somehow.

926 I haven't read it either. I can't remember if I started and got sidetracked, or if I was discouraged by the reviews and never tried it. If you read it, will you let us know what you think?

926 Oooh my! I LOVE getting books. That's definitely my favourite gift :) I'm quite specific in my wishes though, but as there are always 5-10 books I'd like, that usually doesn't prove a problem.

At first I contemplated having two different accounts - one for my owned books and another for not-owned-but-read books, but decided that was more trouble than it was worth, and ended up creating the shelves instead. I like knowing how many books I own :D

926 What can I say, books are my drug of choice. I read at least an hour a day, usually more.

I haven't quite decided whether or not I find the not-owned book-shelf useful. I wanted a way to keep track of which books I own and which ones I don't, but there's no real optimal way of doing it, as you can't look at two book-shelves at once (e.g. owned+fantasy vs. not-owned+fantasy). I know I could just make two shelves for every genre, but that seems just a tad overkill ;)

926 I have read "The Kite Runner" but am one of the very, very, very few people who thought it was only so-so.
Sep 10, 2007 06:52AM

926 You'll have to let me know what you think of "Rebel Angels". I read "A Great And Terrible Beauty" earlier this year, and contemplated getting hold of RA but haven't gotten around to do so yet.

926 I totally second Nightfalltwen's comment! I own that book too and it used to be my favourite when I was younger.

I really enjoy "The Screwtape letters" as well - hope you will too :)

926 I try to do that too, but usually by the time I've finished the book I'll have changed my mind and go read something else instead ;)

Also, I read between 10-20 books a month, so it's not as much a matter of choosing the next book to read as "which book do I want to read in 15 book's time" - and there I REALLY have no clue! ;)

926 Welcome! Glad to have you here :)

I read "The Historian" last year - will be interested to see what you think of it.

926 Welcome Carol, hope you'll enjoy it here :)

926 That's probably it. I tend to go crazy at times - especially when in London as they have such good deals compared to Denmark. Or I'd get books as gifts and not get around to read them, so they'd be stuck on my shelf and eventually forgotten.

Well, to *some* people 100+ books would be TONS - guess I'm just kinda obessed when it comes to books ;) As listed here, I own 400-something (the 695 are books owned AND books read. I decided to make a specific 'owned' shelf to keep track of the former).

926 Wow! Well done! Either you don't have many books, or you're a LOT more organized than I am... Personally I'd guess the latter ;)

Hmmm... do you have some sort of "books I've always wanted to read but never gotten around to" list? Do those instead then :-D

Or pick somebody off goodread and choose books from their shelves?

Or take one of those "top 100 books" lists?

I'm just shooting off ideas here really. Whatever works for you :)
