I really enjoyed
The Return of Ellie Black and the first book in a new-to-me series by J.D. Kirk,
A Litter of Bones. Both were a little darker than I normally read, but hard to put down. The J.D. Kirk had one scene that I had to skim-read, but I really enjoyed the rest of it.
The new Jojo Moyes and Kevin Wilson books were also favorites of mine during Uno, but I will read anything by them...usually as soon as it comes out.

Thanks for everything! There's no other team I'd rather get banned from three galaxies with.

Well that's bittersweet news. 9 more months until Uno...

Melindam wrote: "Yes. UNO is great for shorter books, so I'm trying to keep doorstoppers for TT & Wheels ... and U-books, of course. 😅"U-Books??? 😂

If you end up needing a substitute for "read a book by an author with a different background or nationality" feel free to use
A Litter of Bones that I finished yesterday. The author is from the Scottish Highlands.
The book was set in the highlands, so it would also work as a sub for "set in a faraway land." Just in case you end up needing something last minute!

I decided the easiest way would be to incorporate the book titles and spirit of tasks into the text. (and I ask..."This is amazing. Well done!

sign-ups for Tower Teams are open over at NBRC. 😊

Libraries are important parts o..."Me too. If we ever lost Libby, I might cry actual tears. Especially now that it's the only online resource.
Melindam wrote: "Not that it matters much, but I decided to reduce my kindle book purchases as much as possible (not audible, though, I have my limits) and was looking for alternatives. I checked out Kobo just this..."I will check it out! I have looked at Chirp and Everand. There are some things there, but not even close to what's available from Amazon or Audible.
Melindam wrote: "You are right (I edited my comment above a little), but it's very hard to stay neutral in the face of it all."Oh it certainly wasn't a criticism. I was trying to censor myself. 😂 2025 has been a lot.
Melindam wrote: "Denise,
I remember you telling me about that awesome Library and being envious of your fantastic Library system and I'm so upset and sad about what is happening with all the petty, revengeful cuts..."I don't want to get too political. I try not to on Goodreads as it's an escape for so many, myself included. But gosh...it has only been 3 months. I can't seem to wrap my brain around all the changes in that short amount of time.
I do think that our libraries are in trouble. So, at least I made it reading related. 🫤

I knew that (in the U.S.), the government had made some funding cuts to libraries, but I didn't realize how much. I just received an email that our library is discontinuing the hoopla service (free audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, etc) and they are announcing 9 upcoming closure dates to save money. I remember last year during Uno, I was celebrating our amazing new library building. It is crazy (and sad) how quickly things change.
I know there are much worse things happening in the world. This just made me sad because I think our libraries provide so much more than books to our community.

I have sooo many books started. I guess I need to finish some now. 😂 I will be flying Thursday. Should be great reading time.
Melindam wrote: "Possibly tomorrow 🙄"Oh, I'll try to remember to check this weekend. I was late to the party on the cover colors. Life has been a little crazy this round of Uno, but I SO appreciate the fun distraction it is providing. :)
Thanks for organizing us!
Melindam wrote: "I find myself in need of regrouping my reading a bit.
Feeling a bit low with all the crazystuff going on around us/me and I need some more undemanding and comfort reads just to get on with it."Same. I feel like a lot of the books I would've enjoyed a few years ago just aren't working for me at the moment. We need some "warm hug" books.
Jhmingos wrote: "Can I get 5 Red? Sorry, I'm claiming so many red books, I just keep finding ones I want to read."I kind of like it. I'm feeling guilty because I'm only finding blue, lavender, and teal covers. Or those pesky 49% covers.

Life has been so busy lately. I just updated the spreadsheet with the books I meant to read the last week of March, but didn't get finished. I thought
Murder by Cheesecake was going to be such a quick, fun read with the throwback to The Golden Girls, but it's been kind of a slog. There are at least a few bits of nostalgia in each chapter, but the actual plot has been slowww.
Jhmingos wrote: "Can't wait! Did anyone have any good reads in March? I finally got my first 5-star read this year. This was my longest dry spell for a 5-star read, but James lived up to the hype f..."I'm on hold for this! Great to hear you enjoyed it. :)
