That's totally fine :) if it's too much of a hassle you don't have to listen for so many words ;)

88432 @Ashley, don't worry too much, mini challenges are always a bit overwhelming at first, but you can always ask when you have a question. We can only use a book for one word, but we need all the things it can work for, if we need to change something around. The more it fits the better, but it's also ok if it only fits one word, or none at all :)

88432 @Christina looks good to me. Not the exact green but close

88432 I think my current book might work for dry? It has an umbrella on it, which you need to stay dry when it's raining x) And I'm pretty sure 'pen' and 'lady' were already in the text

The mods will add a tab for it to our spreadsheet soon, where the words are listed, and we'll track it seperate anyways :)

88432 As for our own recipe, I have a link in the first few comments that takes you to a recipe of biscotti ;)

88432 So from what I've gathered in the captains group is, that they want us to go crazy. The rules are pretty much open, we just need to have a good argument why we use a certain book for a certain word :) so be creative!

For posting books after the mini challenge has started: the same layout, but once you listed all the uno cards add "mini challenge" and list all the ways you think your book fits a certain word. F.e Orange: cover is orange

88432 Astral Pavlova Recipe

INGREDIENTS
6 eggs, separated
3 carefully measured teaspoons of orange astral syrup
As much celestial powder as you can stomach
1 1/4 cups (270g) Caster Sugar
2 teaspoons cornflour
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
300ml thickened cream
2 tablespoons Pure Icing Sugar, sifted
Finely shredded rind of 2 limes
juice of 2 limes
2 Lady finger bananas, thinly sliced diagonally
3 golden kiwifruit, peeled, thinly sliced
12 moon berries, thinly sliced
2 starfruit, thinly sliced
Pulp of 2-3 passionfruit

KITCHEN TOOLS
Oven
Foil
Pastry Brush
Pen
Electric Mixer
Measuring Spoons
Measuring Jug
Sharp Knife
Spatula
Serving Plate
Airtight Container
Ceramic or Glass Bowl
Space gloves

METHOD
Step 1
Preheat oven to 120°C. Line an oven tray with foil. Brush with melted butter and dust with cornflour, shaking off excess. Mark a 24cm-diameter circle on foil.
Step 2
Use an electric mixer to whisk egg whites in a clean dry bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition, until meringue is thick and glossy and sugar dissolved. Using space gloves, measure the astral syrup and add to the mix. Rub a little meringue between fingers. If still "gritty" with sugar, continue to whisk until sugar dissolves. Add cornflour, vinegar and vanilla and whisk until just combined. Spoon meringue onto the foil, using the marked circle as a guide. Smooth sides and top of pavlova. Use a small spatula to forms little peaks around edge of pavlova. Bake in oven for 1 and 1/2 hours or until pavlova is dry to the touch. Turn off oven. Leave pavlova in oven with the door ajar to cool completely. When completely cold, transfer to serving plate or store in an airtight container until required.
Step 3
Use an electric mixer to whisk the cream and icing sugar in a medium bowl until firm peaks form. Spoon cream onto the top of pavlova. Pour lime juice into a ceramic or glass bowl. Add banana slices and toss to coat with juice. Drain. Decorate pavlova with banana, kiwifruit, starfruit, moon berries passionfruit and lime rind. Sprinkle over the celestial powder.

Perky Space Chef! February Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. This month we are baking a delicious space treat!.

We have given you a recipe for Astral Pavolva. All underlined words need to be found as words in text or title, items on covers or cover colours. All underlined numbers, are matched to books read by page numbers, series numbers or publication dates. To make it easy, these are listed below.
For each book read you will receive 10 points.

Underlined Words
There are 5 categories:
word in title
word in text
colour of book cover
item on cover
colour of item on cover

Underlined numbers
There are 3 categories:
page numbers
series number
publication date

description

Creativity is the key to the challenge, not rules.
So, diagonal lines on the cover? That can work for "diagonally".
A green coloured book? Is the green a bit like a "lime"?!

Words can be in different contexts, so, for example, "peaks" could be a picture of mountain peaks on the cover

Numbers for the publication date can be the month or the day or the last two digits of the publication year. (3 digit numbers can not be used for publication date)
Publication date is for the edition being read (and shelved).

If you complete every item in the recipe your team will receive 30 bonus points

image: description

But wait... there's more!

Have your team create a recipe for your team name and submit via message to the UNO Pixie by Feb 29 to receive an additional 30 bonus points.

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on February 14, 7pm AEDST (Countdown is here)) and before March 1 at 7pm AEDST (Countdown to March is here))

◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

So put on your aprons, grab a carton of eggs and lets get started!

I'll post the mini challenge prompt in a couple of minutes, they always post it in the captain's chat first :) it basically always has a theme and prompts we have to read for. But as I said, I'll post it in the next 30 minutes and then you can have a read through.

yes, I have the english copy. I think it has been in my shelf for over 2 years now x)
Feb 11, 2020 01:11PM

88432 but yes, the movie is quite different, I think that's why I enjoyed the book even more, especially as you get to know the dad and Jesse more.

I really enjoyed the rest of the book, just those like 20 last pages... to me it just didn't make any sense and was just so unrealistic, especially with the epilogue.

I had like 100 pages left and couldn't put it down, which I immidiately regretted when I read the ending. It's save to say I like the ending of the movie better.
Feb 10, 2020 01:40PM

88432 So I only have 100 pages left of My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult and I really don't know wether to read the last pages extra slow or start a new book before the mini challenge. I have a feeling the mini challenge will be posted on Valentine's Day or on the weekend x)

88432 @Christina I can just give you the book when we see each other next time ;)
