Unfortunately Dymond has had to remove herself from the challenge. Please welcome replacement player Stormie to your team!
UpdateI don't have places yet for:
Anne
Megan
Stormie
Trisha
But as we see how the first week goes we may have some places open up, OR, if we get more signups we may get enough players to make a new team (in which case any books you have read since Feb 1 will count)
IT'S A PERKS ALPHABET READ-A-THON
![]()
As a group let's see what we can read in the month of January and have a Read-A-Thon with a twist!
How this works...
* Each book needs to follow the alphabet from the last one posted
* The Alphabet letter can be based on by genre, author, title, character names, narrator etc.
* As soon as you have a book that you have read in February 2015 that can connect to the last one, post it with the reasons it follows the alphabet and the running tally for you, and for the group for the month, and let's see how many books we can read and connect in the month!
EXAMPLE
Post 1:
Kristie posts:
A
Artemis Fowl (Title)
Kristie's tally - 1 book
Perks Group tally - 1 book
Post 2:
Karen Posts
B
Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris (character Bobo Winthrop)
Karen's tally: 1 book
Perks group tally: 2 books
Post 3:
Kristie posts:
C
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (title and author)
Kirstie's tally: 2 books
Perks group tally: 3 books
.... hopefully you get the idea....
NOTE: You can read any book of any length, children's books and graphic novels also count. Please just remember to check the tally of the book ahead of you and add up the tally as you post
Books need to be marked as "read" between February 1 and February 28, 2015. (It doesn't matter when you started)
I've had a question about characters, and if they need to be "main" characters to count.Minor characters are ok provided they have some meaning/dialogue to the story ... e.g. not just a passing reference to "I once had a cat named Oscar"...

E.g. you complete hands 1,2,3,5 and part of hand 4. By the end of the month if you haven't completed hand 4, you only get points for hands 1,2,3 and part of hand 4 (and nothing for hand 5)

for the reverse card next round. Looks like Valerie read it, and it's on my TBR list."If anyone is interested, you can still get that and book 2 in the series from Netgalley for free download in exchange for a review:

The captain, unless you also have a co-captain who wants to help out, or your captain shares the spreadsheet to others in the team. It's usually a good idea to only have 1-2 people with edit rightsEdit - I just saw on your team thread you have stepped up as co-captain Kayla.. so just PM me your email address and I will give you edit rights :)
Alejo wrote: "I'm sorry to ask so much, but everytime I go to my team group, more doubts appear. I know a book can count for more than just one card, but does it have to be in the same hand? I mean could it coun..."That's ok. Allison's reply is correct. It is only one book per card. The only exception is for Draw 2 where you can use one book for 2 cards (see the example tab on your spreadsheet for an example of how this may work)
Thanks Allison, yes that is trueSo Alejo, up to you how you want to plan, but by the end of the month you need to make sure you have hands completed in order.
E.g. you complete hands 1,2,3,5 and part of hand 4. By the end of the month if you haven't completed hand 4, you only get points for hands 1,2,3 and part of hand 4 (and nothing for hand 5)
Yes, team members can read the same book to use for cards.
Just for any up-and-coming readers, publishers or promoters out there, remember this challenge is NOT about promoting books that are yours or that you have any affiliation with
Marta wrote: "Don't we have to use all the cards in a hand to get points?"Basically, you can start completing them in different orders, but only completed hands in order will count for points at the end of the month.
For example, you may start filling hands 1,2,3,4 and 5 concurrently, and at the end of the month you have completed hands 1,2,3,4 and most of 5. Then all of your cards count for points. However, if you only complete hands 1,2,3 and part of 4 and all of 5 by the end of the month, then you can only get points for hands 1,2,3 and your part of hand 4 (and none of 5). Hope that makes sense :)
