IT'S A PERKS ALPHABET READ-A-THON

As a group let's see what we can read in the month of August and have a Read-A-Thon with a twist!

How this works...

* Each book needs to follow the alphabet from the last one posted

* The Alphabet letter can be based on by genre, author, title, character names, narrator etc.

* As soon as you have a book that you have read in August 2014 that can connect to the last one, post it with the reasons it follows the alphabet and the running tally for you, and for the group for the month, and let's see how many books we can read and connect in the month!

EXAMPLE

Post 1:
Kristie posts:
A
Artemis Fowl (Title)
Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1) by Eoin Colfer

Kristie's tally - 1 book
Perks Group tally - 1 book

Post 2:
Karen Posts
B
Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris (character Bobo Winthrop)
Midnight Crossroad (Midnight, Texas, #1) by Charlaine Harris

Karen's tally: 1 book
Perks group tally: 2 books

Post 3:
Kristie posts:
C
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (title and author)
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Kirstie's tally: 2 books
Perks group tally: 3 books

.... hopefully you get the idea....

NOTE: You can read any book of any length, children's books and graphic novels also count. Please just remember to check the tally of the book ahead of you and add up the tally as you post

Books need to be marked as "read" between August 1 and August 31, 2014. (It doesn't matter when you started)

For an extra bit of fun, I wonder how many books we can read in a month? Any guesses?

Have you read some great YA books?
Ever unsure what YA book to read next?
         Need some YA inspiration?

Then Welcome to the Young Adult Pay it Forward Challenge!

How this works
Each person posting will "pay it forward" by agreeing to read the book posted by the last member, and posting a new YA book that they loved for reading by the next person to post.

Rules
This is NOT for author self promotion. Any posts considered as promotional will be deleted without warning.
You must have read the book you are recommending, given a 4 star rating or higher, and it must be shelved by a minimum of 100 GR users as "Young Adult" (this can be found on the book page, to the right, under "genres")
For books in a series you need to post book 1. If the next person has already read book 1, they can move on to any book in that series that they are up to

When you post you are agreeing to read the book posted before you within the next month
Please update your post when you have read the book, and if possible, provide your rating (and review)
If you have already read the book posted before you, then just "compare books" with that person (instructions under spoiler)and chose another book from their shelves.
(view spoiler)
You can "play" as many times as you like. Once you have read the book given to you, just come back with a new post to read another book and "pay it forward" with another YA book you loved

Example

Post 1
Perks Moderator posts
Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi

Post 2
Kristie posts thereby agreeing to read Under the Never Sky within the next month. She also posts
Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu
for the next member

Post 3
Karen has already read Legend, but she has not read book 3 in the series ; Champion. So she agrees to read Champion and posts
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green
for the next member

Post 4
Annie has already read Will Grayson, Will Grayson, so she "compares books" with Karen and chooses to read The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery instead and posts
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor
for the next member

and so on, and so forth.....

88432 News Looking for Alaska to be made into a movie

Fan Trailer on youtube is here

88432 This is the place to discuss our August BOTM Looking for Alaska by John Green.

Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter's whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.

After. Nothing is ever the same.

88432 This is the place to discuss our August BOTM We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.

Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.
