IT'S A PERKS CONNECTED READ-A-THON

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

As a group let's see what we can read in the month of Sept and have a Read-A-Thon with a twist!

How this works...

* Each book needs to "connect" to the last one posted

* "Connects" can be based on by genre, author, title, character names, colour of cover, same award won or number of pages

* As soon as you have a book that you have read in Sept 2015 that can connect to the last one, post it with the reasons it "connects" and the running tally for you, and for the group for the month, and let's see how many books we can read and connect in the month!

EXAMPLE

Post 1:
Kristie posts:
Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1) by Stephen King Mr. Mercedes
Kristie's tally - 1 book
Perks Group tally - 1 book

Post 2:
Karen Posts
The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden
Connected by: "King" (author and then title)
Karen's tally: 1 book
Perks group tally: 2 books

Post 3:
Kristie posts:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Connected by: Cover colour is yellow
Kirstie's tally: 2 books
Perks group tally: 3 books

.... hopefully you get the idea....

NOTE: You can read any book of any length, children's books and graphic novels also count. Please just remember to check the tally of the book ahead of you and add up the tally as you post

Books need to be marked as "read" between Sept 1 and Sept 30, 2015. (It doesn't matter when you started)

It can be either. You can ignore the article or use it :)

88432 Sorry, yellow should be once. I've updated :)

Sarah - the context doesn't matter, just the word, so your examples would all be ok

KayLynn - I'll accept both as I think "beets" is more of an American term

                                ~April Mini Challenge~

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players from April 7 to April 25.

Just when you thought Easter was over for another year! You are invited to join our UNO Easter Egg Hunt for some extra points in the last month of our team challenge.

Easter Egg Hunt
So many coloured eggs! Try and collect them all!

For each book your team reads with a cover that is predominantly one of these covers you can claim an extra 5 points. You can only claim one of each colour. If you do manage to collect at least one of each colour you will receive an additional 10 bonus points:
♔ Blue
♔ Brown
♔ Gold
♔ Orange
♔ Green
♔ Yellow
♔ Grey
♔ Purple
♔ Pink
♔ Red
♔ Black
♔ White

Easter Scavenger Hunt
Find these words... they are all products used to naturally dye eggs for Easter
For each book your team reads that contains one of these words in the text or title (plurals are acceptable), you can claim an extra 5 points per word found. Your team can claim each word more than once (there is no limit), HOWEVER, you can only claim a maximum of three words per book and each word only once per book. For example, if you find the word "tea" in your book 3 times, you can only claim 5 points. But it you find "tea" in your book and a team mate also finds "tea" in a book, you can both claim 5 points.

♔ Blueberry
♔ Grape
♔ Coffee
♔ Walnut
♔ Tea
♔ Dill
♔ Chilli
♔ Turmeric
♔ Spinach
♔ Chlorophyll
♔ Apple
♔ Beetroot (or Beet)
♔ Onion
♔ Carrot
♔ Paprika
♔ Cranberry
♔ Raspberry
♔ Hibiscus
♔ Red Wine
♔ Orange
♔ Lemon
♔ Chamomile (or Camomile)
♔ Celery
♔ Cumin
♔ Saffron

◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ You can't use the same book for the egg hunt and scavenger hunt. That means if you have a pink book that contains the words "saffron" and "grape" you will need to decide if you want to use it for the colour OR the words. It can not be used for both.
◈ Books read between April 7 to 25 count for this mini challenge
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 160 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 40,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with an April Mini Challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points
