Definitely true, Lauren, everyone knows who he is.

Same here. That one made me laugh. I love the way Zafon writes. He has such a wonderful way with words.

Susan - two great quotes. I especially like the second one about the characters with a life of their own. I have to admit, those are some of the best characters an author has ever come up with. Interesting which characters over time have taken on lives of their own, though. It is interesting to ponder why certain ones do and others don't.

I want a house with a room like the grandfather's Lynn. Sounds so cozy.

That one certainly made me smile, Bea. I will have to check that book out. I love the tone of that quote.

Sorry I missed you, Lynn. I have your name on the list. Can I just plead first time idiocy? My apologies, but I'm glad you noticed. Jennifer is willing to go three, so you two can be pared up. I have updated the lists above to that effect!

8565 That is a great comment on humanity, and all too true, Sherri. I have to say, though, I can certainly understand anyone whose passion is books.

8565 Love that quote, Coralie. I used to work for a man who grew up in Kentucky and he was the same way. He called all of the women who worked for him "his girls" but he meant it as a term of endearment, never demeaning. We used to tease him all the time about it though. On the flip side, I still call my sons "my boys" even though they are both over 18.

Jennifer, you are not too late. Sign-ups are open through today. I will post tomorrow morning who your partner is. It will be me if no one else signs up, but we shall see.

OK, I really didn't have my caffeine this morning. I am in the US (thanks anyway for the benefit of the doubt, Susan), and for some reason I thought it was the 8th today. In fact, I convinced myself it was. How sad is that. So, from that perspective, the sign-ups are still open through today. I doubt we will need to readjust pairings, though. So I am going to leave them as is. I still do not have a buddy, so I will put myself back on the list and partner with anyone who needs a partner if we are at an odd number after this evening.

Sorry for the confusion everyone. Things have been a bit hectic at home for me....I think I was just hoping that today was the 8th. ;P

8565 Just a reminder, everyone starts reading at the same time, on the 15th.

Yep. Can you tell I haven't had my caffeine yet this morning. ;P Fixed it. And thanks for helping my clarify. :)

That is right, Dee. You can set up a thread for your posts and discussions. Your Karen is Karen of the Bookworm icon. Her post here is message number 5. Hope that helps.

I set up a thread for you and Tien to post your choices, reviews, etc., and moved your post there. Here is the link:

8565 Actually, Susan, each pair is on their own for this cycle, so you and Megan are independent of Tien and Fairlee. Therefore you should post in the reporting thread as soon as you and Megan both finish your first book.

I agree, Tien, I gave this book 5 stars and part of what I liked so much about it was all the descriptive prose. That and all the historical detail she included.
