801397 July's theme will be Beach Horror!

Nominate some Beach Horror books to read in July!

After this thread has been up for a bit and has some nominations a poll will be held with the nominations to decide July's group read.

Books with seconds, thirds etc. are more likely to make it to the poll if there are a lot of nominations.

No more than 2 nominations and 2 +1's please.

I agree. I loved the prequel! I loved ... most of Into the Drowning Deep. The ending, I did not love. (view spoiler)
801397 Glad you enjoyed the book. :) I didn't love everything about it either but I enjoyed most of it, though I went in as a potential believer. I do believe in aliens, but whether they are actually abducting people is another question.

I hadn't heard of Fire in the Sky before but a podcast I watch on Youtube just mentioned it. It's based on a true story BUT the movie is apparently way scarier than the true story!
https://youtu.be/TuFKkXGaZd8?t=2509 watch until like 43:05 (not long, it'll start at 41:49) or the whole thing if you want more info.
801397 Cirque Berserk by Jessica Guess and Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman .
801397 I will +1 Cryptid Zoo.
801397 Latasha wrote: "Cryptid Zoo if that counts. It’s the only one I could think of."

It counts :). It mentions a theme park.

Is Dreamland still in print (or any format) anywhere? I can't find it.

801397 😬
801397 Well i've finished it! Definitely fascinated and gave me food for thought. I'm afraid of aliens now though. I am glad I read it.

(view spoiler)
801397 I'm the type that's like "please abduct me and take me off this planet please!" as long as the aliens are nice anyway. Being trapped with evil aliens would be terrifying beyond words.

I haven't heard of Fire in the Sky but that looks terrifying indeed!
801397 They don't scare me so much as fascinate me. If many people are to be believed there might be multiple species of intelligent aliens out there (I don't know if that's true or not, I just believe it's in the realm of possibility) and some sound nice and others ... not so much.

But then I also think of us humans. Some are nice, some are cruel. And we're all one species. It could be like that with aliens, some nice and some mean in the same species. But unfortunately how are people supposed to know? And there's been so many shows/movies showing aliens as nothing but evil people are predisposed to be scared of them.

I will say i'm inclined to distrust aliens abducting people and probing them, because obviously. If they can prove there is some good reason for it ... I might listen but idk, that's pretty cruel and traumatizing people.

On one hand I think it's selfish to think we're the only planet with life on it, or even the most advanced, but how many intelligent alien species could there be? Then again with the size of the universe and all the planets we keep finding out there ... who knows.

It all just fascinates me.
801397 I have read the first chapter and, I think i'm liking it. I'm intrigued anyway. I wonder if it's true. I know it says it is, and I do believe in aliens. What they'd want with us I have no idea.
801397 Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant has won May's group read! This is the thread to discuss "Into the Drowning Deep" in May. Please use spoiler tags and chapter/page numbers when talking about the book.

801397 Anymore? This will still be up another day or 2.

I'll nominate Mermaids and Other Mysteries of the Deep by Paula Guran and Village of the Mermaids by Carlton Mellick III.

801397 We read Into the Drowning Deep 3 years ago ... is that long enough for a reread? Yea, I guess so. That's cool then :)
