This was one of Austen's books that I had not read yet. It was a delight and a bookshelf book for me. I enjoyed the historical context and the characterization.
I just looked through everyone else's Q options for ideas and realized I already read one!Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.
So, Q was easier than I imagined. LOL
Karena wrote: "The letter that's surprisingly giving me problems? N. I was trying to read the books I actually own (that I've been obsessively buying from the library's bookstore. I could get Nathaniel Hawthorne..."Lolita by Nabakov was a great read. Another N on my short list is Nancy Mitford - The Pursuit of Love or Love in a Cold Climate.
These are my remaining letter plans. Q is my problem letter:
P: Barbara Pym - Excellent Women
Q
R: Philip Roth - American Pastoral
U: John Updike - Rabbit, Run
X: Alexander Pushkin - Eugene Onegin
The letter N:How about Lolita or Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov
Love in a Cold Climate or The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford
The three monsters on my list for this year include Gone with the Wind, The Count of Monte Cristo, and War and Peace. Maybe that is too ambitious, but maybe not! I read Anna Karenina already this year and loved it which has really motivated me to tackle War and Peace.
Yes, The Color Purpleis the other book I'd like to read for Black History month. For some reason, my library doesn't have enough copies of this and it is a long wait. Hopefully, I will have it before the month is out. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
I read Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girlby Harriet Jacobs and it was an excellent and informative read for me. I also read The Twelve Tribes of Hattie and it had some good moments, but overall I felt it was very disjointed.
Flannery O'Connor would be an interesting author for 0. Everything That Rises Must Converge or Wise Blood
Poetry is a genre that I sometimes find challenging, but I did really enjoy this anthology of poems which my book club read together.Americans' Favorite Poems: The Favorite Poem Project Anthology
I also enjoyed the collection of Mary Oliver which won the Goodreads award for 2012 under poetry entitled A Thousand Mornings
