Movies and TV (14 new)
Sep 01, 2018 11:19AM

731544 I love to collect stories and movies/books/TV shows are my favorite forms of entertainment.

I just finished Insatiable which was an interesting, if a bit over the top, show on Netflix. I really enjoyed it for what it was. Kind of a guilty pleasure kind of show.

I also just saw Searching in theaters. It was an amazing thriller type movie.

Have any of you seen anything good lately on TV or in theaters?

731544 I think it is crazy how little we know about the brain. You would think we would spend more money on research. I will have to check that book out. I would probably still get things wrong in my writing for dramatic/fictional reasons. Have you seen the movie Split?

731544 Chad: That looks interesting! The books we read don't have to be indie author books, but the majority of the options we vote for will probably be indie. It all depends on what people nominate though. I am going to narrow it down to basically eliminate anything that I know I won't read because I want to participate in the discussions, but everyone in the club gets to nominate and vote on the books. I'm keeping my hands out of that.

Lydia: Sounds interesting! I'm a sucker for dystopia fiction ❤

731544 Nice find Cory! I snagged an ebook copy in case we pick that one :)

AJ - Welcome! If you want to talk about Circe feel free to post in the book discussion folder. Did you have anything you want to nominate for the October book of the month? That is what this topic is for. :)

Welcome Tammy! I have always been interested in psychiatry, especially multiple-personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and narcissistic personality disorder. Are there any books you would recommend to read up on stuff like that? I have a lot of story ideas that would kind of fall under psychological horror, and it would be good research for many of those.

731544 I haven't come up with one yet. I'm thinking that the last week of the month we will vote on the next book, and have the poll end on the Friday before the end of the month. That way everyone has a weekend and maybe a few more days to pick up the book before the next month starts.
Off Topic Rules (1 new)
Aug 28, 2018 11:31PM

731544 This discussion topic is for anything not book related or not related to this book club. Feel free to post any topics in here that don't break the rules for the club. There are a few additional rules here to follow.
1.) Be tolerant of others opinions. Name calling is a violation of rule #1 of the group (being respectful of others).
2.) No discussions about politics, religion, or any other obvious subjects that tend to cause conflict. Please don't open that can of worms.
3.) No book promotions or spam posts
4.) No posts about begging for social media followers, review swaps, or anything that is related to promotion of a business.
5.) Use common sense, if it seems like a bad idea then it probably is and shouldn't be here.
October (1 new)
Aug 28, 2018 11:06PM

731544 For September every book can be the book of the month. In October all the discussions for books that aren't the book of the month can be moved here. For now, feel free to post any book conversations you want here or in the Book of the Month Discussion.
September (1 new)
Aug 28, 2018 10:37PM

731544 We're going to get this club rolling starting in October, but in the mean time I will be reading Origin by Dan Brown. If you want to join in the conversation then you can read along. If you are reading something different then start a thread here and others can join in! If you have a book that you just want to talk about then start a thread for it. All book discussions can go here. :)
Aug 28, 2018 02:21PM

731544 This thread is for special offers or new releases that indie authors may be offering on their books. I will reset this thread every month. If you are an indie author that has a promotion coming up for the end of September or beginning of October then please post it here. If you want to give fellow members of the group a special discount if your book is selected as the book of the month then this is where you can post that.

This thread is specifically for special offers. It is not a place to blindly advertise! If you don't have any special offers or your book is not being released in September then this is not the place to post.

My main goal here is to help indie authors get noticed and get their books nominated to be book of the month, but I also want to give readers an incentive to nominate those books.

Please use the following format for your posts:

731544 As this group is just getting started and most if not all of us are in the middle of reading something already, we will begin by choosing a book to read for October.

Feel free to discuss the book you are currently reading in the Book of the Month discussion. If you want to read along with me, I am currently reading Origin by Dan Brown.

So here are the rules for nominating a book:

1.) You cannot nominate a book that you wrote yourself. (Don't worry authors, we ❤ you and there are other ways to get nominated)
2.) Books must be available in print and ebook formats
3.) I will pick several of the nominations (10 max) to vote on and the winner of the poll will be the book of the month.
4.) I will retain veto power over which books are chosen to be voted on. I will strive to pick a variety of books, but will tend to lean toward indie published books and books that look interesting to me. I may suggest a book that is a new release by a fellow indie author, but only other members can nominate a book.
5.) Follow the template for nominations below.

Here is the template:

Introductions! (12 new)
Aug 26, 2018 11:26PM

731544 Hello Everyone!
I am the one who started this little Book Club in hopes of having some friends to read and discuss books with!

The last book I read was Molly's Game by Molly Bloom. It was interesting if you like poker, which I do! It wasn't written by a professional writer and that comes through sometimes, but I enjoyed it.

I am currently reading Origin by Dan Brown.

My favorite genre would be the Thriller genre. Thrillers have those twists and turns that I enjoy. They can kind of mix in with a variety of genres, but a lot of times people will list horror stories as thriller when I don't think they really fit.

My favorite novel is also by my favorite author and that would be Sphere by Michael Crichton.

I am an author and automation programmer. I enjoy playing poker and video games in my spare time (what is spare time again?) I generally read very slowly, but I hope to dedicate more time to it with this club.

731544 This folder is for general discussion of the book club! There are 2 folders dedicated to talking about books, and anything not book related that isn't discussing the Club itself belongs in the Off Topic folder.

This folder will contain all discussion related to the club and its members. Some of the main functions of this folder will be:
1.) Introductions - Please keep your introduction posts in the Introduction thread.
2.) Book Nominations - Please keep your book nominations in the thread for the current month.
3.) Book of the Month Voting - Please keep your voting in the appropriate thread
4.) Indie Author Book Information - Please keep any book promo posts in this thread. I will reset it periodically. Any book promo posts placed anywhere else will result in the offender being warned for the first couple of offenses and booted if it becomes a consistent problem.
5.) Any other suggestions or ideas! I am open to feedback and anything I can do to make this a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved is what I will try to do.
