I just finished tonight, and just wow. What a depressing book. That ending is just the cherry on top of the whole soul sucking experience. Makes me want to curl up into a ball and sleep forever.

I just got to the point where Frieda and Darwin first go into the box for Heavenly Seventy.

The way the other girls manipulate and shame her is crazy. Megan is a master of putting social pressure on everyone else and wields that power like an oppressive dictator. I'm just waiting for her to turn full force on Frieda.

I'm getting a lot of that too. I've been listening to the audiobook for that and have seen the first season of the show too. The TV show doesn't go into as much detail on those things. Instead of the names being catered to men, all the female names are spelled all lowercase. The strict structured lives, the social pressure, etc.. the world is very similar.

I started another thread for those of us who have read up to where I am. This is still a good space to discuss first impressions. Some people are just getting started here.

I am enjoying the book so far. What do you think is Isabel's secret? Don't tell me if you already know! Has she already been selected by an Inheritant as a younger replacement for a similar model? Is she going to be used for spare parts to heal another? So many thoughts running through my head on this.

I just finished Chapter 13 where they announced that the boys are coming. I think the introduction videos may be all a sham. The Inheritant rankings are all mixed about and the boys may have been reading each other's introductions. That would be interesting wouldn't it?

I like how everything just got turned on its head with the admission that the rankings that the girls were obsessing over don't really matter.

It's time to begin thinking about the next book for the club! Here are the rules for nominating a book:

I will strive to pick a variety of books, but will tend to lean toward indie published books and books that look interesting to me. I may suggest a book that is a new release by a fellow indie author, but only other members can nominate a book.

Yea so far it is a crazy situation the MC is in. Nightmarish. I got to the part where they are shaming another girl for eating the fatty foods. The MC is concerned about watching her weight because she was just over the optimal beauty weight for her design. It's all just a bit much while still being somewhat believable.

Also I am putting the chapter number in the topic title, so we don't run into any spoilers. In this thread try not to talk about what happens past Chapter 4. That way anyone else reading can still participate in the conversation without running into spoilers.

I'm through the first 3 chapters and getting a distinct Stepford Wives kinda feel, but instead of robots the women are genetically engineered.

All the women being ranked by "beauty" is crazy. Beauty is so arbitrary. Everyone has their own vision of what is beautiful. So many thoughts on this, but interested to see if they get into the ranking system more to explain how that works.

Only a few pages left to read for this one. I need to finish before the new book arrives! I just ordered the October book of the month. No pressure! :D

Wow, after reading the descriptions I want to read all of these. I couldn't decide on my own, so I put the choices on paper, put the strips of paper in a hat, and drew one at random.
