731544 Has anyone finished? I can't force my way through it. I tried skimming the pages instead of actually reading it and it just made me want to throw the book more.

731544 Yes.. lots of emotions with very little action. So far I feel like it takes 5 pages for the main character to stand up. When they do stand up it takes another 3 pages to take 1 step. The snail's pace is killing my will to turn more pages.

731544 I'm still only a few pages in. I'm having a hard time getting into this one. The writing in this reminds me a lot of all the reasons I hated Twilight. I will try to push through, but this might be one that I don't finish unless it gets better.

731544 I'm about half way through now. The book thus far has been a study of loneliness and delusion... in space.

731544 November's Book of the Month is: False Start by Rebel Farris

Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/099...

When posting about the book please start the topic with the chapter number/title you are on. That way if you are further along than others then they will know that there could be spoilers. If what you type doesn't contain spoilers then no biggie. I just want to avoid the spoilers if at all possible. Let's Go!

731544 Your Name and Attack on Titan would probably be easier to find. Crunchyroll and Netflix have Attack on Titan. Not sure if either has Your Name. Escaflowne is a bit older so it might be harder to find.

731544 They were all pretty much novella length and then he later combined them into an omnibus that was novel length. I'm trying something similar with The Cursed Armor. I also have another novella that needs to be edited for another story that I plan to do the same thing with.

731544 Sorry for the late update. It looks like False Start has won the vote! I will make updates in the group later today.

731544 I like a lot of them. My favorite series is Escaflowne. It is a kind of scifi/fantasy/romance/action/adventure. They made a movie based off the same characters, but is basically squished the series down into 2 hours and it lost a lot of its charm and drama. Unfortunately they only made 1 season of it. My favorite current series would have to be Attack on Titan. That one is on Netflix. It's kind of a futuristic horror/action series. Your Name is a recent film that I also loved. It is a time travel romance film. It is kind of hard to explain, but it was really good.

731544 It is. Wool is the first part of it. It was originally broken apart into much smaller novellas. Wool was originally released in 5 smaller volumes. Then the other two novels were broken apart in 3 smaller volumes.

731544 I think she was thinking about it ever since the Father took her for his "test drive". The only reason she didn't do it is for her friend. She wanted to make sure Freida was going to be OK before she did it. She knew that the only reason Freida hadn't been sent to the Underground was because of her.

731544 It has been pretty good so far. His first book Wool was fantastic and nothing he has written since then has grabbed me like that.

731544 I am also currently reading Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey on my lunch breaks at work. So far it is following a former soldier who is out on a space beacon. The beacon lets other spacecraft know that there is an asteroid belt in the area so they can avoid it. His job is to basically make sure the beacon continues to function. It has been pretty interesting so far.

It reminds me of 2001, but without the evil computer. Being out in space alone can do strange things to your mind kinda thing.

731544 At first I thought they were going to use Isabel for parts, but then I thought about it more and realized that she was most likely set aside for someone with a lot of power. The only character that was mentioned who would have that kind of power was the Father. I wasn't expecting her suicide at the end although they did speak of suicide quite a bit as if it was a normal thing to do.

731544 I was too. I certainly didn't want it to end like that. A lot of what I thought would happen at the end did happen. Like isabel being taken by the Father.

I was hoping that Darwin would refuse to pick anyone else and that megan would end up as a concubine because of it.

The monologue by ruth at the end was awful. It's like the author just wanted to write a dystopian horror novel, but we were all the monsters.
