I saw that too! The opening theme song was catchy. You can tell it is made by the same guy that does The Simpsons. Do you ever watch Anime? A lot of the Anime that comes over here is aimed at teens, but they use animation to make all kinds of shows.
Me either!I also recently saw A Simple Favor with Anna Kendrick. It was a bit slow moving, but it was soooooo good. One of those slow burn thrillers. Not quite as good as Searching, but I really enjoyed both movies.
Did you enjoy it?I'm currently watching Attack on Titan. It's a sci-fi action adventure dystopia kind of show. It is kinda crazy and creepy. It's one of those shows where it is hard to describe it without giving away the shock of it. It's one of those things you have to experience
Everyone gets one vote, but you can't vote for the book you nominated! All of the nominated books are on the bookshelf if you want to check out the descriptions. In the event of a tie I will break the tie. Voting ends on 9/25.
Nominations
The Power by Naomi Alderman
Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton
The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner
Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill
Isle of Swords by Wayne Thomas Batson
The Murder at Sissingham House by Clara Benson
I just got to a part of the book where there is a huge reveal that has been in the works the entire book. Mind=blown. Not a fan of the way the author keeps winking at the audience at this point, but the reveal is worth the wait for those who are science nerds. This puts this up a few notches in the hierarchy of my favorite Dan Brown books.
Don't forget your purchase links with your nominations. I want to make sure I am adding the right book to the group's bookshelf.
Last day to nominate books will be 9/21. Voting will begin 9/22 and end on 9/25. Everyone ready to get this started?
I read the line yesterday "There is no place like 127.0.0 1" and I love this way too much. My inner nerd hugged the book at that moment.
I love the Artificial Intelligence character Winston. He just built a tree out of words in this book and it made me a little emotional for writerly reasons. It reminded me of a post someone made talking about how books are tattooed dead trees.
What is something you secretly love or hate about the book you are reading, but wouldn't normally tell anyone?
I don't want this book club to become stagnant, so to keep things fresh I will try to post something new or interesting in relation to the book of the month every day or every couple of days. Today I want to play a game I call word salad. To play Word Salad you take the page you are on and go back a random number of pages then pick a phrase from the middle of the page. The next person will do the same, but try to pick a phrase that goes with the previous one. Let's see what kind of word salad story we can make! I'll start:
Wincing in pain
Where is everyone at in the book they are currently reading?I just reached Chapter 77 Page 339 of 456
I just saw Rebirth on Netflix. Interesting film. Guy convinces his friend to join him in a social self help group retreat thing. It turns out to be way more than he bargained for. Not the best film of its kind, but it was weird enough for me to enjoy it for what it was.
Also, in case anyone is curious, you can nominate more than one book. Just make a separate comment for each one. If someone else already nominated a book you want to read then you can second it and add on why you want to read it too. This will help me with narrowing down books once we have more members/nominations.
Just reached chapter 73 yesterday. This is what happens when you get stuck at a gas station hoping your phone doesn't die before AAA can get there. Big reveal in the novel around there, but the author does something I hate. Revealing something to the characters and then make the reader wait a few chapters to find out what it is. Why do writers like to torture their readers? I mean... that's what the characters are there for. It doesn't build anticipation, it causes frustration.
I know. I just enjoyed it for what it was. I knew it wasn't going to be medically accurate. It was pretty creepy though.
I'm about half way through the book and it is interesting, but so far hasn't been as good as some of his other books. I've found that his writing is up and down. Angels & Demons is by far my favorite of his. The Da Vinci Code would be second. This could end up being 3rd, but right now that would be Inferno. There is a lot of anti-church rhetoric in it, so if you are a devout Christian I wouldn't recommend this book.
