Just checking my notes and I see you are the reason I'm reading it Phrynne! It comes from your top 5 of 2014.

721 Last night I bought Annapurna Circuit: Himalayan Journey - I'm thinking about going for a walk!

721 I'm afraid I'm going to fall one short for this challenge - a couple of my books were just too ambitious for my level of busy-ness during Spring.

Yesterday I thought I would quickly watch the movie of Half of a Yellow Sun but I just couldn't get into it. Obviously now is just not the right time for me to become acquainted with this story!

721 I'm afraid I'm not going to make it. My final book (Gilead) is too dull to keep reading. Luckily I enjoyed the other two.

721 I'm going to begin with Alex, which shouldn't take long to read, and follow up with A Constellation of Vital Phenomena.

721 Finished my second - S. - something of a marathon read. You'll understand why if you read my review.

My quote is from the margin notes:

Eric - It's extremely cool how the words can stay the same but their meaning can change.
Jen - Because the reader changes.
Eric - EXACTLY

I was going to choose Jane Eyre too, but decided the Es are too daunting.

As for the Y, I haven't read it yet, so not a genuine recommendation, but I have Deborah Moggach's debut You Must Be Sisters on my bookshelf and think it sounds quite good.

721 Finished my first (a long-ish one!), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - 4★

I collected quite a few quotes, but I think this one is a nice fit for this challenge: As she read, at peace with the world and happy as only a little girl could be with a fine book and a little bowl of candy, and all alone in the house, the leaf shadows shifted and the afternoon passed.

721 I really enjoyed A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It's not that I have an aversion to 'classics', but this isn't the kind of novel that I would normally choose to read, so thanks very much to Amber and Jen for putting it in front of me.

I remember having two goes at it myself, but the second time around I absolutely loved it. I think it was just that first section, where the Death character was so prominent, that put me off initially. It passed.

I used to live just off Hill St - hated having to trek up that hill to get home from work every afternoon! I hadn't heard of this short, but it's not difficult to identify the inspiration for the story... I might just have to buy it and have a sticky beak.

Coincidentally I saw this earlier today - http://www.readings.com.au/review/the... Sounds very interesting. A kind of 'active' read.

721 I've edited my original post to show my progress so far. Still a way to go, but I'm currently reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and S. for the November challenge. I might still make it to the finish line!

I'm with Kathryn - a lovely book, deserving to be read again. Earlier this year I went to a screening of the movie at the State Library of Victoria, so I couldn't help but read the quote in Anne Bancroft's voice!

Nice choices, Kadi. The Thirteenth Tale is one of my favourite books - I'd love to be able to read it for the first time again, if you know what I mean. The other 2 are on my TBR.

Me too. I picked up a copy at a garage sale a few years ago, but haven't yet had the opportunity to dip in and stir up the memories.

So far my choices for this challenge are not lighting my fire, so maybe I will swap one of them for Heidi.
