Well I saw the first 2 movies before I read the books so i really enjoyed the movies. I am one of the few people that can enjoy a movie based on its on merits and not comapre them to books. Thats being said as the books got thicker the movies started to not hold up as well. I did enjoy them all and understand that they had to leave parts out of the books. I dont even use the excuse of seeing them with me nephew anymore.
This book is the true story of the smallpox virus. Richard Preston tells the story of eradicating small pox from the population but that it is not the end ot the virus. It is stored in 2 freezers, 1 in America and 1 in Russia. Or so we thought. There are stories that the former SOviet Union had been doing experiments to genetically enhance the virus and the possibility that other "hostile" countries might also have access to the virus. Preston explains why having the virus even in storage is dangerous and how after 9/11 and the anthrax letters pushed the government to restock the vaccine and possibly find other ways to stop the virus. While I did like this book and I am a big fan of Richard Preston I did not enjoy it has much as his other true story, The Hot Zone (I reccommend The Hot Zone to everyone). He starts his story with the anthrax attacks and then jumps back in time to why the world decided to eradicate the virus from the population then goes back to the days following the anthrax letters. At times his story is a little technical but I feel Richard Preston does a good job of putiing things in terms everyone understands.

I have wanted to read this book for awhile especially after living in Las Vegas and since the movie 21 is based on the book... Kevin Lewis was your average MIT student until one day when 2 friends took him to Atlantic City and introduced him to the art of card counting. Counting cards is not illegal but the casinos do not like it when you do it. Especially if you are winning. Without giving to much away...Taken under the wing of Micky, Kevin learns the ins and outs of card counting. Eventually the casinos start catching on and start 86ing the team from the casinos.
This story gives the details on how the team was able to get away with counting cards for so long and the elobrate system they had to avoid detection. It shows you the good, the bad and the underbelly of Las Vegas. At the end there is even a essay that Kevin Lewis wrote explaining how Blackjack can be beat.
I liked the story and felt the other did not sugarcoat over overexagerate the events
In 1959, 4 members of the Clutter family were murdered, in a small town in Kansas. The two men who committed the crime were Richard Hickock and Perry Smith. This is a true account of the crime, their arrest and trial. What I liked about this story is that it recounts not only the crime but the affects it had on the town of Holocomb Kansas. We learn about the Clutter family, their neighbors and friends. We also learn about the killers and there lives and why they choose to kill that nigh...more In 1959, 4 members of the Clutter family were murdered, in a small town in Kansas. What I liked about this story is that it recounts not only the crime but the affects it had on the town of Holocomb Kansas. We learn about the Clutter family, their neighbors and friends. We also learn about the killers and there lives and why they choose to kill that night. We watch as the investgators search for clues and try and find the person or persons who committed the crime.
While it is a horrible crime, I feel the book was about more than just the crime it was about the people.
This is a sad, scary book and would only recommend it to those of you that can stomach it. I read scary books all the time but I always struggle with true crime stories

This book is very funny. If you are a fan of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart then I highly reccommend this book. If you are someone who takes things to seriously please read something else. It is polictical humor at its best. They make fun of the all governments, America and even Canada. This book is very tongue in cheek. Enjoy at your own risk .
Tony Cohan and his artist wife, Masako, decided to take a vacation where do they go? San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico were they fall in love with the people culture and maybe each other all over again. After returning to the fast paced life in Los Angeles the couple decided to sell everything and move to San Miguel. They end up buying a 250-year-old hacienda on the verge of fallimg down around them. What happens next as 2 Americans try to change their deadline oriented life into that of a much slower pace is a delight to read. It is quite clear as you read the book how much Tony and Masako love Mexico and the people there. This story spans 15 years of them living in San Miquel and the wonderful characters they meet. While Tony tends to ramble a bit it doesnot detract from the book
