I do. We have to learn every piece of tech we use in the mining industry inside out, to fully understand what we can (and can't) do with it and maintaining it means we know every single component of the machinery.
I'm also a geek and like to know how the new fangled shit I buy works and what's inside the critter ;-)

Others are books I bought when I was young and my tastes changed or are unwanted presents from people who didn't know me well enough.
or books that were in a bargain bin and I wanted to fill my (then) empty shelves.
Now I just buy ebooks and I don't have a TBR pile or add any books that I'm not going to read within the next few weeks.

I'm sure if I look, I could find 1 or 2 from the late 70s ;-)
Needless to say they are very unlikely to ever be read.

I would at least give it until Cheris and Jedao meet. Which is very early on. Their interactions are the high points of the book.

The Empire is dead.
Maths sounds better, but I would say that ;-)
I like the little quirks in our shared language. Neither is better or more right or wrong. The US spelling in a lot of cases is the older version and it's the British who changed.
Some are quaint. Cheque is so much more elegant than check
Though Gaol looks clunkier than Jail
Bill Bryson (An American living in the UK) wrote a brilliant book looking at the English language and how it has evolved around the world.
The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way

People don't, literally, hate maths ;-)
They may hate the way they learned it or being made to solve complex problems may have hurt their brain, But you can't hate the whole field of mathematics.
Without maths your computer doesn't work. We can't send rockets into space. Our society doesn't function. You don't make money.
I loved maths. I even did 2 optional maths classes in High School because I couldn't get enough of it.
Maths f...in rocks :-)

That's hilarious. Looking at the label now, it's so obvious

I guess V is not a Python fan

It can only go downhill from here ;-)

IT’S A THRONE OF LIES!"
At least Veronica has read every Sword :-)
Only those 2 pesky Lasers she hasn't read. I can understand Lemming Lem, but A Fire Upon the Deep was my favourite book we read in 2016

Yeah Aussies find it amusing to get mistaken for a Kiwi. But Kiwis get a bit fiery when you call them Aussies.
I've also noticed that Canadian tourists get stroppy if you call them Americans ;-)
I thinks it's a big sibling/little sibling thing. The little one wants an identity separate from the bigger one,

No problem :-) Don't worry aboot it eh. ;-)
I like my Kiwi mates.

I know a fair bit about US history, but of the Founding Fathers who didn't become Presidents, I only really know Benjamin Franklin. The rest are just names or slang terms. Like John Hancock for a signature.
I have heard most of the Hamilton soundtrack and it hasn't clicked with me. That may change if I ever get to see the stage show.

1. What the hell is this?
2. Say, this is pretty interesting.
3. HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!"
I'm still at 1 ;-)
Then again Hamilton isn't really a well known figure here and the musical hasn't reached our shores yet.
So there's still time.

A lot of people here are saying Saga too :-)
You won't regret it. The story is epic and Fiona Staples' artwork is stunning.
I'd love a print of one, or more, of her Saga covers on my wall.

My only goal is to still be around to read at the end of the year ;-)

Started The Armored Saint by Myke Cole. So far it's more to my liking.
