I love Adblock Plus. It makes the internet so much more user friendly.
4170 AndrewP wrote: "Whatever wins, Harry Potter is going to be a tough book to follow."

Not really, each book we read stands (or falls) on it's own merits.

As much as I liked Philosopher's Stone, it is really only a 3 Star book at best.

A massive worldwide hit and game changing (on how books are marketed) piece of literature, but it's no LOTR or Game of Thrones. (My personal opinion for what that's worth) ;-)

I got to the point in life where I decided that none of my laundry needs folding or ironing.

Yes books are supposed to be enjoyed, if it doesn't grab you then toss it.
4170 ^ Burn the witch :-0

I have seen similar tricks. It is a good one :-)
4170 The sequel The Fated Sky is much better than TCS

and I loved TCS (4 Stars) :-)

As long as there are not Fifty of them ;-)

4170 David wrote: "It rhymes on purpose! He planned to name book 2 Widening Gyre originally, before enough people let him know they had no idea what a gyre was or if it was pronounced like a gyro."

It didn't stop Kevin Smith and Walt Flanagan from using it as the title for their Batman comic book.

4170 Tor had a recent story about visualising books in our heads.

https://www.tor.com/2019/02/13/how-do...

Edit: I see John (Nevets) has posted this in the Quick Burns thread as well.

Once there is a movie version LOTR, Harry Potter etc and I read the books then I can't help but visualise the movie version characters.

For those that didn't translate it.

Now get back to work and finish the last few books

yeah I wasn't expecting that. That was a major plot twist.

4170 I have it in my Netflix queue to watch. I am now more excited to watch it after the positive feedback here.

4170 I read it in 1999 when I was a little 7 year old boy.

(view spoiler)

I viewed it through the eyes of my then 8 year old goddaughter, who I introduced to the series. I watched her grow up with Harry, Hermione and Ron.

I never read the last 2 books. I had started to find the teenage angsty Harry a bit annoying by then. I did watch the movie versions.
4170 Dara wrote: "Tassie Dave wrote: "In case people missed it, the OP was making a joke :-)."

It was a very bad joke and OP should feel bad. Boo! Minus 15 internet points."

I've made worse jokes on here ;-)
4170 Bryan wrote: "I guess everyone one has a different definition of STEAMY."

Enough to make life incompatible with human life seems very steamy to me ;-)

4170 I loved The Fated Sky (5 Stars) and am bummed that Book 3 isn't available yet.

It was much better than The Calculating Stars, which I also loved (4 Stars)

How have I not read MRK before this? :-?

Apparently that bag is a real thing under consideration for future long haul space missions. Though it will be be a fully mechanical process. No human involvement required.
4170 Bryan wrote: "P.S. I think Tom Merritt may even be able to get Andrew Mayne on the show 😉"

They've had him on twice. But a third time would be ok ;-)
4170 She's not the first author that doesn't understand the genre she writes in.
4170 Robert wrote: "Well, since Tom picked the British title that means us yanks have to track down a UK edition! And we must listen to Stephen Fry's performance. :-D"

He picked both/either.

From the book briefing on Patreon:

I, Tom will pick a Sword book this month.

And I'm going to pick Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone.

4170 Rob wrote: "Androids is the only book I've had to abbreviate in all the years I've been a moderator. "

I had to do it with The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter which I now see is the longest at 44 characters (spaces and punctuation included)
