4170 Amazingly every matchup, including the semi-finals (all 14 brackets) have been a male authored book versus a female authored book.
4170 A Theft of Swords/Martian Chronicles final is looking good

Any of the four left would be fine by me :-)

You'd be more outraged if you were Australian.

People magazine here is a lads magazine featuring naked women and questionable content.

The magazine you know as "People" is called "Who" here.

4170 Trike is a trouble maker ;-)

That is a joke BTW. Me and Trike come across at times as cynical, cranky old men at times. Which is fair as we are both cynical, old and cranky :-)

It takes time to learn the idiosyncrasies of individual members. I don't always agree with Trike (view spoiler) and I don't always agree with other members here at times, but most of the time we are on the same page.

Join in a few established threads and get to know the members here. You will find that the vast majority are nice, friendly and helpful.

We won't always agree with you, and you won't always agree with us.

4170 They weren't posted by Trike, and I don't see them as racist.

They were reaction gifs. Not at all racist.

The second one is just an amusing "sit back, eat popcorn and watch the drama" reaction.

I don't fully understand the first one but is not racist. More of an "Oh my!" type reaction.

That they are African Americans is purely coincidental to their purpose.

4170 As someone who has been on dozens of online forums for 25 years and moderated on 3 of them, the people on this forum were more than fair to you.

I gave you several chances to get the topic back onto the question you asked. I know you tried, but then instead of waiting for a reply, you decided to go on a rant about previous posts and disrespect and insult the whole group.

We here often disagree and the topics here sometimes get quite heated, but at the end of the day we treat each other with respect.

I don't think you were sincere with your original thread. It, like this thread, was just an excuse to complain about the way you were treated online.

We moderators normally don't need don't do much moderating here as it is a friendly and intelligent group that plays by the rules. Occasionally we have to move threads to their correct section.

Be nice and the people here will be nice back. It's not hard.
The internet is not out to get you.

Join in a few threads and you will find we are friendly.

4170 I have friends and family members in their 50s/60s who haven't read a book since they left school. I find that strange. I never stopped reading.

I've never had anyone tell me I shouldn't read.

The worst experience I've had was when, at 17, I tried to tell my mother about this great book I'd just read (Lord of the Rings).

She just said "aren't you a bit old for fairy stories". It was the last time I tried to share my reading experiences with her.

How did it it not have a bearing on what you said?

Quote ".....reviewbomb this because it has a female lead."

I showed that it wasn't because it was a female led superhero movie.

Phil explained why they were really dumping on it. Because of Brie Larson's recent comments about white males.

People were giving it bad reviews. Just not for the reason you stated.

I have no problem with people getting defensive. I do it sometimes as well. You just seem particularly sensitive when you aren't agreed with.

4170 There is no use continuing this thread. It is now closed to further comments.

You are free to start another thread to discuss genre fiction, but please be respectful and make your point clearer in the Opening post.

There is no need to be disrespectful to the whole group. We disagree with each other often, but are adult enough to do it in a respectful and friendly way.

I just offered an alternate female led superhero movie that rated well on Rotten Tomatoes. Not agreeing or disagreeing with your point

You get so defensive at times.

4170 Phil wrote: "They were set off by Brie Larson saying something to the effect of "she didn't care what white males thought of the movie because it's not for them" and "she didn't want to answer questions by whit..."

Apparently those comments were made by her about "Wrinkle in TIme" not "Captain Marvel"

“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time,” Larson said. “It wasn’t made for him! I want to know what it meant to women of color, biracial women, to teen women of color.”

Larson elaborated on this point, saying that it wasn’t about excluding white men, but including those who have historically been marginalized.

Are these the same small penised dickheads that gave Wonder Woman an 88% Audience Score ?

I'm not saying you are wrong. Marvel fanboys might be worse than DC fanboys.

4170 Cool. It's good to know the S&L set still lives on :-)

Mark wrote: "I had long assumed that Sword and Laser had died when the video show did, but I was pleasantly surprised to find, years later, that it still lived on in podcast form."

Sword and Laser will never die. The podcast was around for 4 years before the first video series. (2008) The bookclub started in 2007.

https://swordandlaser.fandom.com/wiki...

BTW which video series was the company working on when you worked there? The 2012 Geek and Sundry series or the 2014 Kickstarter funded series?

I guess it was the latter for the set to still be around.

I'm not deleting anyone, or shutting down this thread (yet) but can we stick to discussing the topic (if there is one)

Everyone here has different political views which can be respected. Our differences doesn't stop us debating and discussing ideas in a respectful and friendly way.

I am one of those socialist whackos. Go Bernie and AOC ;-) and an atheist to boot, which is fairly common in my State. I also support free speech, but not without limits.
Mar 08, 2019 12:38PM

4170 Dennis make a new thread to discuss any ideas related to genre fiction if you are genuine.

This has derailed and it is hard to see what the original point of the post was.

We will discuss anything here and do disagree with each other. But this is confusing.

4170 My initial thought is, that it's self promotion of the author's book. Though it's vagueness stops me from automatically placing it in the self promo section.

It isn't obvious which blog post we are supposed to be be discussing. I'm not clicking through every post.

I'll discuss any concept and idea, but I need the relevant information in the OP and a direct link, "if" I decide I need to read the whole article.
