The 21 Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Series Ever"

I could argue there are books missing (like on any of these lists), but I can't argue against any book that is on it.

A really good list. I've read every author on it and, at least, one book in every series, except The Vorkosigan Saga.

It includes 14 books we've read for Sword and Laser
The Fifth Season (alternate)
The Eye of the World
Dragonflight
The Left Hand of Darkness
Neuromancer
Northern Lights
Dawn
The Three-Body Problem
Temeraire
Ninefox Gambit
Foundation
Ancillary Justice
Wyrd Sisters
Assassin's Apprentice

The 2nd list is good. Though I was expecting a more widely diverse, geographically, list. Not just North American indigenous.

4170 It did have mixed opinions. I hated it.

We did have a whole thread at the time on whether it was fantasy or not. I fell on the side of "not"

Thanks :-)
This is the book Brian talked about on Sword and Laser back in April.

Brian is one of my favourite authors. I had this as a "might read" one day, when I get the time. But you can't beat free ;-)

4170 I love all the fan art (some commissioned) that has been done. It really brings the book to life.

I was having trouble picturing Congeniality until I found the art. It is basically a mean Chocobo ;-)

4170 No idea what you mean :-?

4170 Early on and I already know this book is going to be one of my favourite books of 2019.
I've been looking up some of the artwork that has been done for the book. It is amazing.

I will link directly and give credit to each piece I show below.

I'm assuming you mean live action. Because Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spiderman film by far.

I got a copy from the Aus Amazon store a while back, but couldn't get into it. I may revisit it at some stage.

4170 That's pretty much how I score as well.

3 Stars is a good score for a book. To get a 5 a book has to be really special.

I'm not a fan of ratings systems (in life) where getting 4/5 is considered a fail.

and yes Trike is an old fart :-P
4170 I made none of these facts up.

Sam Sykes has done many things worthy of note, most of them involving violence of one manner or another. Amongst his feats of strength, he counts the following:

Wrestling a Kodiak bear to the earth
Defeating nine of ten prime ministers
Founding, and later destroying, the East India Company
The Renaissance

Sykes may be a dark sprite split from the soul of fellow author Myke Cole as a side effect of the activity of wights at the time of their birth. Cole will vehemently deny this. No one has come forth with definitive proof otherwise.

He lives with two hounds in a small, drab apartment and has eaten at least one of every animal on earth.

Suspected by many to be at least tangentially related to most causes of human suffering.

He currently resides in the United States and is probably watching you read this right now.

He is a noted harquebusier.
4170 We look forward to a fun interview and lots of Twitter hijinks with Sam Sykes about his book

Trike wrote: "As the seventh Sword book this year, that’s an interesting coincidence, vis-à-vis the title."

It's the 6th by my count :-?

Though knowing your pedantry on genre ;-) which of Nine Fox Gambit, The Calculating Stars, The Martian Chronicles or Vessel do you consider fantasy?

I'm expecting a lot. How can I maintain my cranky old man persona, if I don't get disappointed often ;-)

Mark wrote: "I wonder what Bill Watterson is up to these days?."

That would be more exciting than "The Far Side", but very unlikely.

Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side and Robotman were my go to comic strips in the 80s and 90s

4170 The style does lend itself well for greeting cards.

On its best days 'The Far Side" was brilliant. Even on a bad day they still made me smile. Much like XKCD

We don't know much about what's coming other than the tease page.
But it better be new material Gary :-?
