4170 Gina Carano is in the upcoming episode and is, supposedly, going to be a major part of the show.

We have to wait until series 1 is over before we judge the lack of female characters. The back half of the series may correct the imbalance so far.

4170 I don't like the pressure of book challenges.

I purposely set my targets low. "Under promise, over deliver"
I may go lower next year and only set 6 of both.

or totally forget about them, as I did with the Graphic Novel challenge ;-)

4170 Star Wars writers do have a habit of making plot holes, and not thinking through the in-world logic ;-)

Tadpole Merch's species may go through a sudden metamorphosis past 50.

or Yoda was a child prodigy
4170 A nice Xmassy novel, with a Pratchetty twist.

We get an extra day to read this one. We have until December 32nd.

This is our 3rd Terry Pratchett book.
We've also read Wyrd Sisters and Good Omens (Co-written with Neil Gaiman)

The only other author we have read thrice was John Scalzi with:
Old Man's War and alternate picks (Redshirts and Fuzzy Nation)

4170 I've been doing the maths on the timelines, and if young tadpole is 50 years old, that would make him born the same year as Darth Vader/Anakin.

I don't think that means anything, just a cool fact.

The Mandalorian is set 9 Years after destruction of the first Death Star in "Star Wars" Ep IV.
4 years after "Return of the Jedi" and 25 years before "The Force Awakens"

4170 A few here will be happy :-)

4170 None of the main plot points or storyline was spoiled :-?

4170 I just got sick of writing baby yoda all the time. Which is silly because he's not Yoda and we still don't know what Yoda is.

He, the baby, does need a nickname. I suggest, Tadpole :-)

4170 Great 3rd episode. This was the most "western" episode yet. The rocketeer Mandalorians were cool. "I gotta get one of those"

Though 3 episodes in we still haven't seen Pedro's face or anything of Gina Carano. I expect Gina will appear next week. It feels like the main story arc started at the end of this episode.

I can only guess they were after the Midi-chlorians from baby Yoda. I don't think we have seen the last of the guy who was with the baby Yoda, (I wish they'd give him, BY, a name ;-) ) , they have hinted that he is the only one there who was protective of BY and concerned for him.

Yes, good suggestion, Eric and Mark!"

It would be almost impossible to pinpoint the first fantasy book ever written. "The Odyssey" & "The Illiad" are both fantasy and predate that book by 2,500+ years.

Even they wouldn't be the oldest ones written.

4170 I didn't change the width and height. The dimensions of the picture I used were ok. It didn't need changing.

If I had used the smaller pic I could have changed the dimensions to width="316" height="475" to get it to that size.

Here's how I put that picture in the post:

* I went to the Goodreads page for your book.
* I placed cursor over the book cover and clicked on the "enlarge cover" option
* I "right-clicked" on the larger image and chose "open in new tab" option
* I copy and pasted the image html code from (some html is ok) menu.
* I copy and pasted the url for the image into the html code
* I removed the part of the html code I didn't need

Will we need the whole month? Will Amazon stream one episode a week or all the episodes at once?"

The wiki page says all 10 episodes will be released Dec. 13

4170 The series was originally going to be called "The Golden Compasses". Which was taken from "Paradise Lost" (As was the name "His Dark Materials")

The US publisher, wrongly, thought "The Golden Compasses" name referred to the Alethiometer, and liked that, in singular form, for the title for Book 1.

The rest is history.

4170 I enjoyed the 2 episodes I watched today. It's fun.

I'm surprised he hasn't had his helmet off in either episode though.

Why hire a known actor if we never see him. You may as well have the stunt man do every scene :-?

4170 The scriptwriter for the radio dramatisation named it "Ozymandias".

Pullman has said he wouldn't have chosen that name.

"Star Wars" came out in 1977. The appendage "A New Hope" was added for the 1981 theatrical re-release.
