4170 As others have said, S&L is the perfect book club for introverts.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth wrote: "Also, this makes the common mistake of assuming all introverts are quiet."

That's me too. I cover my introversion in social situations by never shutting up ;-)

I have to be with very close friends or family to be comfortable with silence in a group.

It is funny that Harbour is playing a character called Alexei.

That's the name of the guy Chief Hopper kept forgetting and called Smirnoff instead.

I wonder if it that was a writer's in-joke :-)

4170 There are no graphic rape scenes. The 2 rapes that effect the storyline both happen off camera. We see the lead up and the aftermath to both. The repercussions of both are confronting.

There is one attempted rape on camera that is thwarted violently.

4170 Showing on Amazon now is "The Boys" an 8 part series about superheroes as celebrities controlled by a multinational company who manipulate their images on social media.

What happens when they go bad? Well mostly. Starlight is a sweet heart 'girl-next-door' new recruit learning to be a superhero surrounded by arsehole superheroes.

This is not for kids. It is gory. Ultra-violent and deals with rape, murder, torture etc

Karl Urban is great as the British FBI-ish vigilante trying to uncover the truth behind the "Supes" (superheroes)

Teaser trailer: Scene is not part of the shows. Funny though.

4170 Most of the shows are available from the Episode index.

http://swordandlaser.com/episode-index

If you click on the episode you want and the player isn't working (It's showing the puzzle piece), then go all the way to the bottom of the post. Where there is is direct link to the episode.

I just tried this for a few early episodes (including #99) and it works.

A fan has made a torrent of the Episodes 1 to 40. Veronica has a post about it on Sword and Laser.

You could go direct to archive.org where a lot of the episodes and videos are stored

4170 I am very early in the book (about 11%) and am also getting a Red Sister vibe.

If it's half as good, (or better), than that series, I'll be happy :-)

People seem more relucatant to make a new thread for some reason, even though each book gets its own section for like 5 years, before I merge them into a yearly archive. Older books had 10-30 threads. Newer ones are closer to 5.."

Remember years ago when we used to have a "Discussion Leader" for each book. They'd start a few threads to get the discussion going.

Maybe it's something that could happen again. Of course we'd need someone to volunteer for each book. Which might be problematic unless they are passionate about the book.

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was 21 when Frankenstein was published. She's probably the youngest we've read but I'm not certain. Where's our statistician? "

Mary Shelley is the youngest author we've read.

She was 20 years 4 months old when Frankenstein was published.
Born Aug 30 1797. Published Jan 1 1818

R.F.Kuang was 21 years 11 months old when TPW was published.
Born May 29 1996. Published May 1 2018

I am reasonably sure they are the 2 youngest.

R.F.Kuang is the youngest author at the time we read their book. She is 23 years 2 months old now.

4170 Trike wrote: "there were only four channels on the TV."

Wow, you had 4 TV channels in the 80s. I had 2.
I didn't get my 3rd channel until 1994 :-?

I hate phones too. I have a mobile phone, but never carry it. I find it weird that people obsess over their smart phones and can't live without them.

We are grumpy old men ;-)

4170 I could do six years easily. I could even do it solo. in fact that would be preferable.

Unless I could choose the crew. Weed out the people who would seriously piss me off after an extended trip.

Either that or I'm throwing them out the airlock. "Oh no he/she forgot to hook their tether on correctly" ;-)

4170 I can't believe I never posted in this originally. The answer today is the same as I would have answered the day this thread was started.

Dune is by far the best Sci-Fi book I have ever read.

It is a horrible coincidence that Roy Batty died in the year 2019 in Blade Runner :-?

I hope Daryl Hannah doesn't follow :-?
4170 2. I had read Harry Potter and Theft of Swords.
4170 I hope you're right. I've been bored by the first 2 episodes and was considering ditching it.

I'll give it another 2 episodes.
