4170 The violence didn't bother me either. The only parts that made me a bit uncomfortable were the scenes (view spoiler)

4170 I know in Australia that "High Tea" is considered to be classy and something you dress a bit more formal for.

You wouldn't rock up to a "High Tea" in shorts and a T-shirt.

It's the sort of event you go to mid-afternoon at the yacht club or a classy restaurant.
4170 Anyone expecting sexy times from the blurb, lower your expectations. 😉

It isn't India literally, but it is a fictional India-like country.

It was an "ok" book. I wasn't disappointed that I read it, but also wasn't eager to read anymore. I gave it 3 stars.

Some of the scenes around violent cultural practices are very disturbing and confronting.

4170 The sequels don't live up to the first movie.

Too bad Trike isn't here. He'd lead the Star Wars isn't Sci-Fi rant and I'd back him all the way 😂

Star Wars "is" Fantasy. The Force "is" magic

I loved that book.

Agreed. I love the humour in Thor: Ragnarok. Taika got it right in that film. But Thor: L&T pushed jokes past the point where they were funny, into pure cornball.

TW had been batting a thousand up to this film, so I'm not prepared to write off his directing career yet.

We'll blame Apple 😉

The most recent episode available on Apple podcast app is 443.

I ended up listening direct from Sound cloud

4170 This episode has yet to arrive in my pod catcher (The Apple Podcast app)

I know I can listen to it directly from the link above, but it is less convenient.

Season 5 is, supposed, to be the final season.

Though it is yet to be green-lit, it should happen.

4170 It is something I don't understand, as one of the reasons to read is to experience other cultures and diverse lifestyles. Footnotes can explain obscure references.

It would be like an American going overseas and only eating at McDonalds and KFC and not experiencing the local cuisine.

“put another shrimp on the barbie”

This become a catchphrase in the US following an Aussie tourism promotion featuring Hoges.

Only problem is, no Aussie would ever say that because we call them prawns.

4170 It is strange they changed the British-isms in the US version.

They could have had footnotes to explain the more obscure ones. They add to the charm of the story.

As an Aussie brought up on British cop shows like The Sweeney & The Bill and many other British comedies and dramas, I got most of the references. A few I had to look up, like jam sandwich.

At least they wouldn't have had to dub Max.

Mel Gibson is a redneck American 😜
4170 I'm assuming this is an anthology of shorts stories set in a shared universe.

I've heard it is dark in parts.

I love the Kindle (on iPad) built in Dictionary, Wikipedia & Translate options. It makes reading so much more enjoyable, having explanations only a finger press away.

I didn't realise Prey was on Disney+ here in Oz. I found it this morning while checking out what's new.

I loved it. My 2nd favourite Predator movie after the original.

I smiled when the classic Arnie line from the original movie was used.

"If it bleeds, we can kill it."

4170 That is a strange financial arrangement.

Paper boys/girls here would be paid by the newsagent depending on how many papers they had to deliver.

The customers would pay the newsagent for their papers and delivery. Usually weekly or fortnightly.

4170 Uh. 😕 That seemed so strange to me. It was weird that Erin (new girl) only met her fellow paper girls while on her route (well technically off her route 😉)

In Oz/NZ/UK she'd have met them all while picking up her papers at the newsagent.
