"Stand and Deliver" by Adam and the Ants

A bit of Aussie rock for the montage of them setting out for Castia "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC (I'm thinking of the movie version to come)

When they escape. "Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney and Wings.

I loved "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and the "Black Sheep Squadron"
Though not Fantasy 😉 They did actually exist, even though the TV show was based on their stories.
I am prepared to accept Sci-Fi and real life if you all want to go down that direction.
One out of left field.
Andy's toys from Toy Story 2.
Buzz, Slinky Dog, Mr Potato Head, Hamm & Rex on a mission to rescue Woody.

They can be heroic-ish mercenaries or bumbling fools. Fighting for Good or Evil, Right or Wrong, or just to survive to their next meal and pay day.
As long as they are a group who strive for a common purpose.
Mine would have to be the "Gentlemen Bastards" as featured in February 2012 Book pick The Lies of Locke Lamora
They are a ragtag group of thieves who target the rich through elaborate con jobs.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls wrote: "Also, I think the chapter when Jain is introduced should have had "Jane" by Jefferson Starship in the soundtrack. "
I'd suggest "Stand and Deliver" by Adam and the Ants.

December's book pick will be Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames
Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best -- the meanest, dirtiest, most feared crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.
Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk - or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help. His daughter Rose is trapped in a city besieged by an enemy one hundred thousand strong and hungry for blood. Rescuing Rose is the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.
It's time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld.
From Tom: "The book has drawn comparisons to Skyrim and D&D. In 2018 it won The Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Newcomer and the Best Debut Novel on the Fantasy Stabby Award subreddit."
The Kindle and Dead Tree editions features a Lord of the Rings style map.
It can be found on Nicholas' website in colour or Black and white

The brain does seem to skip over it when reading, but it just seems to stand out when listening, he uttered.
I'd rather the narrator distinguish between the voices, and also have a different tone for inner thought and vocal dialogue than repeated say "said", he expressed.

It is on Prime in Oz.
I just finished watching it. Bummed that it ends on a cliffhanger and we have to wait 2 years to see the end of it.

Train travel is free, so we can't track people by the ticket sales.
No mobile reception because of radiation. So we can't contact people directly, unless we know where they are.
I agree this could easily have been steam punk.

It is available here. So no geo-blocking.
I have Blue Eye Samurai on my watch list. I love a good anime. The animation looks amazing.
Glad to hear it has your tick of approval.

Promoting books, and, hopefully, sales is what this section is for.
Good luck with its success.

The daughter of Dr. Moreau (This time named Catherine) is also a central character in "The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club Series" by Theodora Goss.
This includes former S&L pick The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter and its sequels European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman and The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl
It is a fun series.

I'd also add "His Dark Materials"

I will definitely be getting "Third Eye" 😎 Felicia is a talented writer and actor. I loved "The Guild"
This was the first Sword and Laser interview in over 3 years. Since #390 and Dennis E. Taylor.
I hope Veronica, off mike, asked Felicia for Neil Gaiman's number 😉 That is still the dream interview we all want.

It’s time young people start to think about what kind of world they want to leave to Willie Nelson and Keith Richard."
If Betty White could die, then these 2 are way over due 😜
I believe Keith Richards is already dead. He just hasn't realised it yet. 😉

I think with the rise of the loonie Fundamentalist Conservatives in the US, that it's more likely to go to the other extreme end of the political spectrum and end up as a fascist run dictatorship.
I worry for the US if Trump or one of his acolytes win the 2024 election. They may never hand power back.
That seemed ridiculous to contemplate a decade or so back, but seeing what the right and its supporters are prepared to believe, accept and do has been a real eye opener since 2016.
The end to all great Empires is inevitable, I just thought it would take a few more centuries for the US, but now I'm not so sure. 😕
I worry for this world we are leaving our children 😕

It is a great book, but those child torture scenes are rough and forced me to take a Star off 😕

I liked S1 as well, but it got criticism in S1 for having very few aliens.
That has been addressed in S2. Lot of aliens and they are evolving i..."
I think this would be a great series to binge.
The only gripe I have with the series is that with 4 different storylines that are being followed we can go weeks without seeing certain characters.
The most recent episode was rare in that we only had a single storyline. We usually swap between 2 of the storylines.
I hope we catch up with the other 3 this week
A binge watch would take away that wait to see what happens.
