For October, we could scratch the spoopy itch and the Mieville effect in one swell foop with Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant (aka Seanan McGuire).

The Hugo stats were published yesterday, but they didn't include nomination stats. I guess those will come later. That means we don't know if the Sword and Laser podcast was nominated. WorldCon 2025 is in Anaheim next year, Tom's back yard. Maybe we should try another push to get the podcast nominated.

The Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book was awarded to Darcie Little Badger for Sheine Lende, a prequel to a book we read, Elatsoe.

LOWER DECKS! LOWER DECKS! LOWER DECKS!
I live in New Mexico, land of no major league professional sports teams. When I went to college in the Boston area, I went to my first first major league baseball game at Fenway Park. Bleacher seats at Fenway were $5 in those days, the only pro sports ticket that cheap, and of course, there was beer. For that reason I became a Red Sox fan. Watching on tv isn't the same, but there is still beer.
Mr. Chu: you wrote Typhoon, an entertaining tale in the Walking Dead universe, back in 2019. Are there other science fiction, fantasy, and/or horror franchises that you would like to visit and chronicle?

My local library has the first three DCC books in print, but no ebook or audiobook editions, which is unusual for recent releases. No matter though, I bought a copy of DCC months ago and I've been buying the later volumes too. I've had moderate success requesting purchase of new books from my library, but lately, a couple of books I've requested are in some kind of "in process" holding pattern that never ends. Maybe it's budget issues.
This is old news, but relevant to our April pick...https://deadline.com/2024/08/dungeon-...
There doesn't seem to be any recent news about DCC in development, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see if anything happens.
In the tv adaptation, the writers tried to give Borlu a more interesting backstory, but I don't think they succeeded. I think it just made more of a tv policeman.
