4170 I just finished Billy Summers and really enjoyed it. Next I'll be starting our March Madness winner since I was able to get it from the library but have to return it in 2 weeks.

4170 You're welcome. I always enjoy the tournament, which makes all the extra work worth doing.
4170 Tom hasn't updated the bracket yet, but I think Joyce won: https://challonge.com/tournaments/108... despite the pessimism of her bracket title.

I could be wrong though. Since she correctly got the winner I think she'll move to first with 22 points.

And whoever did this Untitled bracket: https://challonge.com/tournaments/108... would be in second with 21.

Our previous leader (https://challonge.com/tournaments/108...) who predicted the finals correctly has fallen to 3 having selected Children of Time instead..

4170 So in other words, adding additional restrictions will be welcome by some by not by others. Some people may want to repeated books. Others no repeated authors.

Regardless of what happens each year, I always enjoy March Madness the most. Personally I'm not bothered by repeating entries until they win/become a dictatorial pick.
4170 Something to note though is if T&V decide to add additional "criteria" to selecting the final bracket, I'd want to make the well known/apparent in the Nominations FAQ.

For example. last year there was a miscommunication about doing 8 sword and 8 laser books and because of a lot of the guest picks being laser they decided to do a full sword tournament. It's not a huge deal, but everyone who nominated a laser pick could have nominated a sword book instead.

Same thing here, if they decide they won't pick (or are less likely to pick) past entrants, while I wouldn't enforce that in the nominations, I'd at least want to make a note of it like I have with repeat authors.

As this tournament shows, they will sometimes use repeat authors, but in general most picks are new ones.
4170 It's hard enough for me to do nominations as it is, I personally don't want deal with more complicated rules.

As it is, it's Tom & Veronica's choice. They can make a book from a past tournament a pick in another month. They can decide if they want to put a book from a past tournament in the next tournament.

There is no need for complicated rules because the bracket isn't being set simply based on the nominations in the first place.

4170 Congratulations to whoever made this bracket: https://challonge.com/tournaments/108...

They have correctly predicted the finals.

However there are a few other brackets who could move ahead if their finals prediction is wrong.

4170 I thought Rivers would at least make the final before losing. Bummer.

I hope Veronica will finally have pity on Rivers and make it a dictatorial pick later this year.

Picard season 3 (121 new)
Mar 15, 2022 02:59AM

4170 I was debating if I was going to watch Picard week to week or wait and binge. I binged season 1 because I was watching it at a friend's house who had paramount+ (or maybe it was still CBS all access back then).

In general I prefer to binge most shows these days, but I kept seeing (slight ep 2 spoiler)(view spoiler) on twitter, and was worried if I didn't start watching week to week the twitter "suggested tweets" algorithm was going to spoil the show for me.

4170 Not SFF, but I'm about halfway through Billy Summers and really enjoying it. I don't read all of King's stuff, but most of the recent stuff by him I've read has been more mystery/thriller than horror or fantasy.
