And Elizabeth, I thank you as always. One day, I'll develop something myself. I just have to put the time into it.

10.7 Monsterfest IV - Tricked by Kevin Hearne
Oh Atticus, how I love thee, even in thine own stupidity! The Iron Druid Chronicles is quickly becoming one of my favorite series, and boy have I read a lot of series. Could it be because of the fantastic characters, which includes an Irish wolfhound named Oberon who has pun contests with his owner? Or could it be because of Hearne’s fantastic sense of humor and jokes woven so excellently into the storyline? It’s all that and a big bag of sausages (that would be +1 sausages for me, for those who have read this latest installment), I’m telling you. If you are looking for an entertaining paranormal fantasy series, seriously look no further than the Iron Druid Chronicles. I assure you you won’t be disappointed.

10.4 Celebrate Colors - The Black Prism by Brent Weeks
The Black Prism was…colorful, confusing, conniving and many other things. I liked it…I think. I thought the characters were good. They were well developed and you have your protagonist (sort of, I’ll leave that to you to figure out) defined. The plot was interesting but what I found confusing was the magic portion of the whole story. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around how they “drafted” and all that it encompassed and being that the book is 700+ pages, you’re investing a lot of time into understanding everything. In the end, I think I will read the next installment though I won’t rush out to do so.

10.9 To Be Continued - Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb
I admit to really enjoying the In Death series. Sure, the formula for each novel is very similar but each novel bares a new layer to Lieutenant Dallas and her “O.M.G. every woman wants to get in close hubby” Roarke. This novel really takes you deep into Eve and she bares her soul or some of it so you really feel for her, at least I did. But amongst the soul searching there were some heartwarming and funny momenst between man and wife that help to make this futuristic series very real for me and keep me coming back for me. And more there is with well over 30 books in this series.

20.1 Frankenstein - His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
His Majesty’s Dragon has a different take on the Napoleonic Wars and puts the dragon spin on them. I was highly entertained by Novik’s debut novel. Her portrayal of the dragon’s really took on a human feel. We’re quickly introduced to Laurence and to Temeraire and the very odd and intense connection that they have which is formed so suddenly and unexpectedly in Laurence’s mind. A navy man having to switch his profession to aviator at this later time in his life and the compromises he must make to make himself and Temeraire happy makes for a very interesting and delightful opening to this series. I’ve read many dragon books in the past and enjoyed most of them, that I recall but I found this one to be somewhat different, not at all in a negative fashion.

10.7 Monsterfest - The Passage by Justin Cronin
It didn’t take me long to get caught up in this book. I was all in and it was riveting…for the first portion of it. The middle portion sort of lagged for me, I’m really not sure where it was all going but then the third part of it picked right up again and I was enamored. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It has many of the things I love to read about – viruses, post apocalyptic, etc. and I’m really looking forward to reading The Twelve. I’m hoping to wait until I can get it in paperback though as lugging The Passage around was the worst part about the whole experience. Hardcovers are heavy!
