Louise, how did you like it?

10.8 Pick A Pulitzer - The Red Garden by Alice Hoffman
I didn't know what to expect when I started this novel but I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's not so much a novel but a series of vignettes about the settlers of Blackwell, Massachusetts and how legends are born and the truth is set free. Enjoyable.

Anyways, here's my book chain. I've yet to complete a sub-challenge but hope to do so this time around.

Squee!!! Yay. It doesn't take much to make me happy! :-)
I see I have to change mine as The Book Thief is YA and cannot be used. Crap. Luckily, it's the last book in my chain.

Agreed, yuck but hey, whatever works for points! :-)

10.9 Please Sir... - The Fall by Guillermo del Toro
This third installment in this vampiric trilogy was a very satisfying ending to a very enjoyable series. While the action is definitely not as fast paced as the first book, there is a lot of background and history that gives the reader a good sense of why the Master is what he is and how he came to be. I was fascinated and appalled all at the same time. If you like end of the world type books or vampire books, I believe you would enjoy this series. All the adults in my family read it and all enjoyed it – highly recommended.

10.9 Please Sir... - The Search by Nora Roberts
Since becoming a Nora Roberts fan, I’ve seen this book and left it alone because I knew it would bring out the emotion in me. I wasn’t wrong but it wasn’t all that I thought it would be. I thought I had the ending pegged right from the get go but I didn’t. I’ll admit that while it was an easy read, I didn’t fall in love with the male lead like I normally do. He didn’t totally do it for me. It was an enjoyable read none the less and gave me a totally new appreciation for my own canine friend.

10.5 Rooting for the Bad Guy - Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (listed on at least two of the posted lists)
This book was magically fun and engaging but not what I would call extroardinary but I can certainly see why this series would appeal to a very wide audience. I laughed out loud at some of the antics in it and was reminded a few times of a “blast ended skrewt”. I think there could be some more development of the characters and maybe there is as the series goes on. You do get a pretty good idea of what kind of “kid” Artemis Fowl is in this first book of the series but I’m not sure that I’m going to run out to read the next one.

20.2 True Colors - Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
This book took me a long time to read. I find there are books you like reading even though you don’t know the real “story” behind what you are reading and then there are Atwood’s books that are like that but I find them to be an effort in frustration. Through most of the book, I’m sort of screaming in my head “why the hell is he here???” and of course it’s not until close to the end of the book that you find out why. While I understand the reasoning for structuring the story this way, it left me mostly unfulfilled in a story that had a fascinating and frighteningly scary plot that I could have loved but just didn’t.

10.1 Square Peg - Hex and the City by Simon R. Green
This fourth installment in Simon Green’s Nightside series has probably been my favorite so far. I really liked a few of the characters in this one and their interplay with each other and while I enjoy the Nightside books, there’s some part of me that hasn’t been totally grabbed in like others have and I can’t put my finger on why. They are short books and fairly quick reads, for the most part but it takes me longer to read then it should. It could simply be that there is so much to grasp about the Nightside world and it’s hard to take in but at least Hex and the City gave me a few answers to some burning questions.
