Back to the casino! But never fear, it will only cost reading time, and everyone is a winner.

You will read 10 books by 10 different authors using the deck of cards from this spreadsheet. To make a "hand" combine two to five cards so that the sum for any book totals 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21. Careful! You can use a card only once.

An Example:

Swimming Lessons and Other Stories from Firozsha Baag by Rohinton Mistry
8 spades (author born in India)
8 diamonds (pub 1987)
2 clubs (250 pages)

You may complete Blackjack three times. You will get a new deck (reuse cards from the same spreadsheet) for each round.

15.1-15.4: 15 points
15.5-15.7: 20 points
15.8-15.9: 30 points
15.10: 45 points


Finisher bonuses:
20-21 Cards: 50 points
22-24 Cards: 100 points
25+ Cards: 150 points

Per book bonuses, 5 points each:
Not fiction (Not a Novel)
Female
Pub'd 1995 and earlier



A few reminders:

I. You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for Blackjack (nor do the Blackjack tasks count as Combo style points for regular Reading with Style tasks).

II. All books read for this sub-challenge must be at least 100 pages, based on the most popular English-language print edition (MPE). (See Ace of Diamonds for the only exception).

III. Please be aware that cookbooks, illustrated guides, and graphic novels are not allowed for the sub-challenge. Also, books designated as "YA", "Assignment", or "Juv" by the Brooklyn Public Library with a Lexile score less than 800.
