That sounds like a good problem! We will try to pick less preferred awards next time? (kidding) Hope you find something you enjoy.

An anthology of one author's work with a different author offering an introduction, would not work. Does that clear it up?

36119 There are two options here.

1. An author's debut novel book, regardless of publication date OR
2. An author's most recent novel book prior to the start of the winter challenge (before 1 December 2019).

Edited to use the word book (as this task does) instead of novel.

Reading through a few reviews and the book synopsis, it looks like this will work.

36119 20.1 Decade

We have been reading competitively at the RwS for a decade now. Celebrate by reading one of the top 500 books from Best Books of the Decade list.

20.2 Freedom Season

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on Sept. 22, 1863. Read a book related to the American Civil War or a novel set in the American South. For the purpose of this task, the following state are the American South: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

20.3 She Writes

One of our early, popular tasks: Read a book written by a woman with a woman main character.

20.4 Poet's Non-Poetry

From our Spring 2011 challenge: Read a work of prose by an author more commonly known as a poet.

20.5 Sense of Place

Read a book which evokes a sense of place. Any book listed for either the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize or the Ondaatje Prize qualify for this task. Also qualified are books where the GR description specifically references "sense of place" or elsewhere on the web in which the book summary specifically references a "sense of place." In this latter case, please provide a link in the appropriate help thread.

20.6 Stand Up For Your Rights
