Read a classic book (published before 1950) that you find intimidating.
I find poems, especially long poems, intimidating. For this task I read a long poem that I’ve been meaning to read since the 1970s:
Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie (1847) by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Hardcover, 126 pages)
Bloom’s Canon, http://sonic.net/~rteeter/grtbloom.html, lists “Selected poems” of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow without stating WHICH poems. Since Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie is a major poem, I’m guessing it would be included in Bloom’s “Selected poems” category, but if not just let me know.
