36119 Task 20.10 – Liz M's task - Undaunted:
Read a classic book (published before 1950) that you find intimidating.

I find poems, especially long poems, intimidating. For this task I read a long poem that I’ve been meaning to read since the 1970s:

Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie (1847) by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Hardcover, 126 pages)

Bloom’s Canon, http://sonic.net/~rteeter/grtbloom.html, lists “Selected poems” of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow without stating WHICH poems. Since Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie is a major poem, I’m guessing it would be included in Bloom’s “Selected poems” category, but if not just let me know.

I wondered about whether or not Anita Desai counted as Non-Western because, while she was born in India, she is currently living in the United States

Anita Desai lives in the United States, where she is the John E. Burchard Professor of Writing at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA.

36119 I've been looking for a place to fit Sherman: A Soldier's Life by Lee Kennett -- Since the United States was mentioned in blurbs in the monthes of March, April and August; and, since Sherman was a major figure in United States History, would it fit here in 20.8? Thanks!

After fifteen years, and more than two hundred and fifty books later, and Night Shade Books has become a significant publisher of genre fiction. With the help of an essential and dedicated group of editors, artists, and designers, we publish between three and five books a month.

Turns out I have alot of Nightshade Books publications on my TBR :0) I'll just have to make a list!!!

36119 OK I've thought about it. I find long poems intimidating. Evangeline maybe?
