The second half did get better I think, because there was something actually happening because I had almost DNF'ed at 40%. But it was so weird by the end.

Umm, it was like reading an entirely different novel than the first. For whatever it is worth, I liked the last part more as it had something going on even if extremely whacky stuff. I felt like nothing was happening at all in first half except Inez missing her parents.
24. Do you think the characters stay true to themselves, or grow or change? Which characters do you find multifaceted vs 2-dimensional? Which characters are still too shrouded in mystery and secrets to know who they are?
I think the characters keep changing their colours and that's is becaue a lot is left to be revealed.
25. Let’s talk about Elvira. Do you find it plausible that she, another naïve girl traveling solo, was able to get to Egypt from Argentina to find Inez at the perfect time? And after just being betrayed by her mother - HER MOTHER - do you think it likely that Inez would let her cousin meet an unknown man alone? How did you react to Elvira’s fate, and do you think it was consistent with the tone of the book?
I felt everything went too well according to some weird plan with Elvira's coming. Like it fit too well into the story so I am suspicious
26. Any guesses as to where Inez’s father is, or thoughts on whether he’s still alive? Do you think he has the magical sheet Whit is searching for?
Alive I think. He might have the sheet or hid it somewhere.
27. How did you interpret the final cliffhanger dialog in the Epilogue? Has it been Porter or Whit - or both - Inez has been interacting with? Twins? Are you planning to read the next / final book?
Twins maybe. Wonder what they are playing at. I am kind of intrigued to know what is at play but I am not sure if I really have the bandwidth to read it as I felt the book was quite average

Speaking of BoMs, I am really struggling to finish What the River Knows. I always end up picking something else while I read it that book at tortoise speed. I should really focus on getting it finished before I hit my cap.

Part One, Chapter 6 - Part One, Chapter 12
6. In this part Inez spends some time with Mr. Hayes. What did you think of their afternoon in Cairo? Did you enjoy their banter?
It was a refreshing change with their banter. But it could have been even more engaging I think
7. After sensing familiar magic from an old trinket, Inez buys it and later has a vision of Cleopatra. What do you think this vision means? Do you believe Cleopatra’s burial site can only be found with Inez’s help?
There has to be a link between her parents - this ring - this burial and Inez. Not sure what the Cleopatra connection will turn out to be.
8. Every now and then, the point of view shifts briefly to Mr. Hayes. Do you enjoy these moments from his perspective, or would you prefer the story to stay entirely with Inez?
I quite welcome it as I think Inez's pov gets repetitive
9. Inez finds a letter from her mother, in which she suspects that Tío Ricardo is involved in illegal activities. Does this letter, along with the boat conversation Inez overhears, make you suspicious of Tío Ricardo? Or do you think he’s not responsible for Inez’s parents’ murder?
I think he is hiding something but he does care about Inez. He is not a bad person according to me. But he might have his hands dirty somewhere.

Haha I am actually a sucker for Japanese and Korean psycho thrillers (more movies than books). I had wanted to watch the movie based on this book for a long time.
It is definitely a good one and a quick read. But I was expecting more gore / more of a character going totally crazy such that I cannot sleep at night haha. That's why to me it was a 3.5 because it was not that disturbing 🙈🙈
All being said, it is an eerie and creepy psycho thriller - and something which is not too disturbing (at least to my standards)
