35559 I won't get to my 589 page book The Fire Blossom (The Fire Blossom Saga #1) by Sarah Lark until later tonight and finish tomorrow. It's my anniversary and the hubs and I are going out to a fine dining place with live music so that'll be a nice change. He does work tomorrow so we won't be out late cuz we old geezers need our sleep, but I'll at least start it tonight.

35559 I just finished and posted my ROPE book.

Can we please stop drawing just these two:
4.) Read a book with sheep AND people on the cover.
5.) Read a book whose MC is a farmer.

I read one of those early on but had such a hard time finding those in one book. Separate obviously is easier but this is at least our 3rd time...ugh for those two. lol

I'm not sure to be honest. I assumed it's a suburb because it is a small town and throughout the book it mentions things such as these:
"the interstate a good 15 miles into the city"
"Most people in Wolf Ridge had to go to the city to find better jobs"
"Our town's cemetery had steadily become the most crowded place within the city limits" (this was due to so many deaths and murders so their cemetery had a lot of bodies being buried

I took the various descriptions such as those above and figured their town was a suburb of a large city.

Very much so, but historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, if not my favorite. I gave it 4 stars.

Awesome! Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres so I'll read that one today for us! Thanks, Jenny :)

"There came a day in laste summer..."
"Angrboda agreed." 62%

11. I love how the myths surrounding Loki are casually mixed into this book. I'm a fan of Norse mythology, though I don't know a ton about it. Do you know or enjoy Norse mythology? Do you like how the author is incorporating it into her book?

I am far more familiar with Greek and Roman mythology, but I enjoy all kinds of mythology when I'm reading the genre. I couldn't name Norse gods with certainty like I can Greek and Roman. I do enjoy the way the author is incorporating Norse mythology in this book and I've already learned things I hadn't known, so that's a positive.

12. "Was I wrong to not tell them the world may not accept the the way they are?"

This is Angrboda's question after not only Loki's other wife, but Loki himself, refers to their children as monsters. How would you answer her question? Was she right to try and protect and hide them from the Nine Worlds? Should she have gone about it in a different manner?

As a mother, I 100% understand her reaction to first protect her children, especially since they're so young. I think under the circumstances and based on her history that she did the right thing, which was the best thing as far as she knew.

13. What an ending to Part One! Did you see what was to come? Did you already know the myths before or were you completely surprised? If you already knew the myth, did you like the author's interpretation of events? Were you as angry at the world as I was reading all that happened to Angrboda and her children, cause I was ready to fight!

I don't recall ever reading any myths about him before, so I was totally surprised and hadn't guessed what was about to happen. Of course I was angry! lol

14. It seems that Angrboda's dreams can now transport her into other's thoughts. Do you think this is a one-off event because of how much stress she was under? If not, how do you think she'll use this skill from now on?

I definitely think she'll use that skill for now on and hopefully further develop it. Why wouldn't she? I hope she can use it to communicate with her children!

15. So Angrboda has a new voice in her head. Who do you think the voice belongs to? Do you think it's connected to Angrboda's seeming inability to die? Do you think it's a friend or a foe?

It's very possible that the voice is connected to Angrboda's seeming inability to die but not 100% sure of that. I have an eerie feeling that it might be a foe.
35559 DQs Day 2 — "He stayed with her as the days ..." to "... given her daughter a new obsession" - 40%

6. After Angrboda performs seid for the first time again, she starts having dreams where she hears someone calling to and beckoning her. Angrboda doesn't believe it to be Odin at first, but her suspicion changes over time. Who do you think it could be?

It could be Odin, but I think we'll be meeting a new, unknown character who will play an important part. I hope.

7. Skadi reappears in this section, having left her husband behind. Do you think he'll come back into the story later? Why do you think she chose a husband as recompense in the first place?

I'm not sure but I have a feeling Skadi is gay and chose her husband for ulterior motives. I think in some ways she was using him to access places or people she might've felt less able to without a husband.

8. Hel was born with "dead" legs (or dead flesh on fully functioning legs? I'm honestly a little confused by it) and when she over exerts herself she starts turning blue. Angrboda attributes this to when she tried to save her daughter — but I'm not so sure. Do you have any theories on what the cause could be? Is it as simple as Angrboda believes, or do you think it's something bigger to be revealed later on?

I have a feeling that it's something bigger but not sure what. I don't recall anything about Hel in my past reading so I'm kind of stumped.

9. There have been several mentions of a witch who birthed a race of wolves who chase the sun and moon so far in the story — and now Angrboda has given birth to a wolf. Do you think she is the Old one the stories reference? Or, if not, do you think we will meet that character later on?

I am super intrigued by this storyline. I do think it's very possible that she is the Old one and I am excited to find out.

10. Angrboda decides not to tell Loki about his and his family's involvement in her vision of the beginning of the end. What do you think of her decision? Do you think she made the right choice in not telling him?

I haven't trusted Loki from the get-go, so I do think she made the best decision not to tell him. I don't know why she'd trust him with that info.
35559 DQs Day 1
Beginning to "... a promise she knew that she couldn't keep."

1.) What attracted you to this book? BOM points? That COVER? Because of the Norse Retelling angle to the story? Any expectations you'd like to share?

I was first "attracted" to the book for the BOM points. I did love the cover and I also love mythology. I don't have any specific expectations so far except for it to be amazing, I hope.

2.) What did you think of Angrboda's first meeting with Loki?I mean he brought her heart back in his knapsack basically because he was bored. But he was so charming, I'm not sure I'd care either. Though it didn't hurt I kept picturing him as Tom Hiddleston. LOL

I felt like he didn't show that he truly cares, but I did like their first meeting. I don't trust him though because he's such a trickster I'm wondering what he has up his sleeve.

3.) Thoughts on Skadi? Why do you think she helped Angrboda in the first place? And to such an extent? If Skadi was male, how different do you think that interaction would of been?

So far I really like Skadi and I definitely think she has romantic feelings for Angrboda. I doubt that if Skadi were male there might've possibly been romance developing.

4.) The quote from Skadi, "Time doesn't matter unless you are keeping track of it." Resonated with me. What do you think of this? Do you agree with the statement?

My answer is contingent on the time that one might be keeping track of. For example, if you're taking a timed test, you'd want to be very cognizant of the time. But when it comes to enjoying life's experiences I'd say time shouldn't matter. Enjoy to your heart's content.

5.) Loki's reaction to the pregnancy was, let's go with interesting. What type of father are you expecting him to be? Do you think he will be a functioning part of the child's life?
I don't expect him to be around much, especially given that he now has another wife too.

I seriously doubt Loki is a stand up kind of father, unless there's something in it for him so we shall see.

I love that! I used to live with my sister years ago, but after my mother died she moved to Florida to be with her four children. I'm in California, but I always thought that in our old age (and we're there) that we'd live together. But even if my husband died before I do, all of my children and about half of my grandchildren live in CA or are within a 5-7 hour drive so I can't leave CA even if I would like to do so!

35559 FYI I have read a series that has the entire alphabet, so if you need a specific letter you'll find it. It's a cozy mystery series and every book is rated 4+ except book #1 which is 3.88. All are on KU and range from 103-118 pages long, so it's an EASY and quick read & find if we need a book 100-125 pages again. It's called The Markham Sisters series by Diana Xarissa

I put a book for 100-125 pages for the Sirens Monster, but I can't finish it until after midnight, so if someone else reads a book for that spot and wants to put their book there and bump me, feel free. :)

35559 Tammie, I am only reading it for a monster should we get that particular one. If we do, it'll cover one entire monster and should be a quick read! I haven't read any other books in the series, so I can't say how much I like it but it does sound interesting and a bit different.

35559 I have posted 2 of my 5 books. I didn't realize we were in such a hurry to finish our books, but I am almost done with my biggest book Epic Fantasy which is Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch 578 pages and I'm on 428. My hubby is off today and plans to work in the garden so I will have the entire day to read. My other two categories are a plain on the cover and features a bird (bird shifter accepted). If anyone has one of those two that they can use before I post, feel free to bump me and post your book! I'm fine with that. My books are 328 and 343 pages, so once I finish my current book I will speed read the other two. But again anyone please feel free to bump my spots if you have a book that fits.
