Bernadette, I think I fixed everything. It's not my sheet, and when I look at functions I didn't think my way through I start to zone out. Will you double check me?

35559 Day 2 DQs

5. The list of characters continues to grow. Although, I do think we are getting more views of the family. Have you been able to form opinions about the family members, yet? Do you have any favorites?
I actually like them all. They all have great attributes!

6. The scenes with the brownies struck me as strange. The family all seem to know that the brownies are important to Amy, but Stan is weird and seems to be making it into a competition. Everyone else seems to be trying to avoid the show down. As a family that has been competitive for so long, is it weird that they seem to shy away from it?
I thought it was icky the way Stan made it competitive, but unsurprising considering his competitive nature. I also thought it was annoying that everyone was afraid to hurt Amy's feelings.

7. Savannah continues to stay just out of focus for me. I don't know what to think about her. Any thoughts on who she is or why she is working so hard to ingratiate herself with Joy and Stan?
She is a mystery for sure, and I think she will stay that way until the very end!

8. "Why not rewrite the memory and remember it as a perfect day? What was the actual benefit of accuracy when it came to memories?" (p157) I like this quote. It gives a bit of insight into the collective memories of the family. I think it offers a bit of unreliability to all of our narrators. What do you think about this view of memories?
It's definitely like the quote as well! I think the tendency to want a re-do on things is natural.
35559 Day 1 DQs

1. Traditional 1st BOM question! What has led you to join in?
Is Liane Moriarty one of your must read authors or are you more like me, where I'm happy to read her books as I get round to them.
I really enjoy Liane Moriarty's books! I don't search them out, but if I see one and it's relevant to my current reading needs, it's getting read!

2. I'm finding this difficult to sink into. 2 different timelines and multiple points of view. So far we've had the prologue, the waitress, Joy, the beautician, Barb, Brooke's physiotherapy patient, Brooke, the Uber driver, the police officer and Logan. I feel like I've missed someone as well! Do you think we'll circle back to anyone other than the family?
Yes, I think we will do lots of circles, as is Liane's usual way!

3. Savannah has just appeared at the house. Do you think she has more of a link to the family than she is saying? I feel like the house choice isn't entirely random but I can't put my finger on why (other than reading too much and trying to see patterns). What are your feelings about Joy and Stan taking her in?
Probably, Liane is always pulling something wild!

4. There's a lot of hints towards Joy and Stan's relationship being less than picture perfect. Do you think he's responsible for Joy's disappearance or has she really taken herself off grid? With the comments in her section about memory loss, is this actually a case of a lady with relatively early onset dementia getting lost?
I really want the answer to be no, he has no idea where she's gone and isn't involved.

Sorry to keep confusing you Jess! There might have been some different language while Goodreads was changing their book page format around, too. I honestly can't remember whether it's always said shelved or tagged or people...
As long as I can find it on your shelves, you're ok! :)

35559 AND, we are more than half-way towards spelling it out again, if we read all the books we have claimed at the moment! Go TEAM!

Also, we don't need anymore blue covers for the bonus, BUT feel free to find as many Space Opera tags as you can! :)

Sorry I missed this before!
The start / end time for each round will be 9pm UK time. Round 1 ends Nov 21

Also, don't forget only books read during the specified round can be used (“read date” is what counts, not the day you start.) Books cannot be “banked” from previous rounds to use later in the challenge.

No worries Kirsten, if that's your pattern, I'll wait a bit longer to check yours! I don't mind, I just tend to have time in the morning to look through things, I can always wait until later and check a few times before I mention anything. :)
Nov 17, 2022 06:38AM

35559 @Kirsten: When you get a sec, will you add Ocean's Echo to your wheels shelf?

I try to verify they are there as I go, so that I don't end up having to browse through a bunch of books to find out if something is missing!

35559 Jessica wrote: "the nbrc one I made as a tag. but then I was told it had to be a shelf and not a tag"

So this is also a bookshelf, the term is interchangeable and you create it in the same way.
So, your "wheels-7" shelf is currently an exclusive shelf and you can only put a book on one exclusive shelf at a time. Your "nbrc-wheels-7" shelf is not an exclusive shelf, so you can mark a book as read, and then also as "nbrc-wheels-7".

Does that make sense?

Are you always on mobile? Most of the NBRC challenges are much easier on a web browser, so you might try using that to get the shelf situation in order.
Nov 16, 2022 03:06PM

35559 it looks like you have 2 wheels shelves right now. "wheels 7" and "nbrcwheels7" I think your wheels 7 might be an exclusive shelf
Nov 16, 2022 03:01PM

35559 Jess, that's the exclusive thing I was talking about. make sure your wheels shelf is NOT exclusive
Nov 16, 2022 01:05PM

35559 @Jess
Can you mark your book Ghost Eaters as read on your Wheels bookshelf, please?

35559 Sophie wrote: "You are welcome to answer the questions and get credit for the BOM on a personal level.

If you are taking part in wheels, it won't count towards your team's participation unless you started it aft..."

I was going to take this at value, but now I'm confused! This was posted in the Wheels thread:

to gain participation credit players must:
- start reading on or after 1 Nov 22
- finish reading by the end of the challenge
- respond to at least three sets of DQs for the BOM

Am I just reading it wrong? I don't really mind, but I just want to make sure I don't give our team the wrong information.
Nov 16, 2022 08:16AM

35559 Ok, so some clarification was posted about the BOM's. Of note, to gain participation credit players must:
- start reading on or after 1 Nov 22
- finish reading by the end of the challenge
- respond to at least three sets of DQs for the BOM

To this end, I'm thinking that as long as the book is started and read after 1-Nov and before the end of the challenge, it is usable.

@Bernadette, your book from 2 weeks ago might actually count. I will get some further clarification, but it might be worth it to answer the DQs if you started and read it after 1-Nov!
